Return of Ratings with the return of Katrina Victims? Doesn't seem to equate no matter the focus.

Ed Lavendera - there you go. Ed said it. They are abandoned. That was Bush's intention the entire time. Ignore the devastation and bulldoze the dead. I said it then and here we are. The Katrina Disaster is off news television and Bush hasn't been back since. There are no street lights. Lost revenues to the city, the state. People won't be back. This will all be underwater again next year.

60 minutes. 90 years away? Right. Like 90 years from now matters today. Talk about the long view.

Dr. Kelly states New Orleans is sinking. This is not new. Wilmington, North Carolina was once an island. That is what happened with "Floyd." It's island status returned with all the flooding and the surrounding towns were at a lower elevation and flooded. The severe storms that have come through since then have caused all the waterways to rise but no flooding of the towns that fell victim to Floyd.

I apologize for the date. It is coincidental and just reality. This edition was published FOR September 11, 2001. It was published long before the attacks on the Trade Towers and Pentagon.

NEW ORLEANS IS SINKING
BY JIM WILSON
Published on: September 11, 2001

The surge of a Category 5 storm could put New Orleans under 18 ft. of water.

They don't bury the dead in New Orleans. The highest point in the city is only 6 ft. above sea level, which makes for watery graves. Fearful that rotting corpses caused epidemics, the city limited ground burials in 1830. Mausoleums built on soggy cemetery grounds became the final resting place for generations. Beyond providing a macabre tourist attraction, these "cities of the dead" serve as a reminder of the Big Easy's vulnerability to flooding. The reason water rushes into graves is because New Orleans sits atop a delta made of unconsolidated material that has washed down the Mississippi River.
Think of the city as a chin jutting out, waiting for a one-two punch from Mother Nature. The first blow comes from the sky. Hurricanes plying the Gulf of Mexico push massive domes of water (storm surges) ahead of their swirling winds. After the surges hit, the second blow strikes from below. The same swampy delta ground that necessitates above-ground burials leaves water from the storm surge with no place to go but up.
The fact that New Orleans has not already sunk is a matter of luck. If slightly different paths had been followed by Hurricanes Camille, which struck in August 1969, Andrew in August 1992 or George in September 1998, today we might need scuba gear to tour the French Quarter.
"In New Orleans, you never get above sea level, so you're always going to be isolated during a strong hurricane," says Kay Wilkins of the southeast Louisiana chapter of the American Red Cross.

atrina tears oil rig loose
An oil rig tore free of its moorings as Hurricane Katrina lashed the Alabama coast, before surging downriver and smashing into a suspension bridge, witnesses said.
The platform broke free from the Bender shipbuilding and repair yard in Mobile during the morning as the then category four hurricane walloped the southern US coast.
The runaway rig then drifted through the choppy waters of the Mobile River before hitting the Cochrane/Africatown USA road bridge.

Iraq Bus Attack Kills Two British Muslims

Associated Press Writer
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Gunmen ambushed a bus Monday carrying British Muslims to Shiite shrines, killing two Britons and wounding three. The U.S. Embassy confirmed an American is missing in Iraq - presumably one of four aid workers who disappeared over the weekend.
Also Monday, two Sunni Arab politicians were slain in separate attacks - part of an escalation of violence that U.S. and Iraqi officials predicted in advance of Dec. 15 parliamentary elections.
The bloodshed occurred as the trial of ousted leader Saddam Hussein for alleged crimes against humanity resumed Monday in a heavily guarded Baghdad courtroom. The trial was adjourned until Dec. 5 to allow time to find replacements for two defense lawyers who were slain and another who fled the country after he was wounded.

DJ US Cash Grain Outlook:Storms, Prices Limit Interior Trade
9:47 AM, November 28, 2005
CENTRAL CITY, Neb. (Dow Jones)--A combination of inclement weather anddepressed prices severely limited cash grain trade in key areas of the U.S.interior Monday. Local basis premiums were largely unchanged. The first major winter storm of the season was producing snow and ice acrossthe central to northern Plains, plus thunderstorms from Florida to the GreatLakes. With blowing snow and wind gusts of over 50 miles an hour creatingnear-blizzard conditions and very treacherous roads, winter storm watches andwarnings were in effect from eastern Colorado to northern Minnesota. High windswere also buffeting many other areas of the southern Plains and Deep South, restraining travel by high-profile grain trucks. "I had to crack the door of my pickup open with a screwdriver this morning, because it was encased in ice," said a Nebraska elevator operator. "I can'timagine there are many farmers that want to get a grain truck out on theseroads, just to sell at these prices." Although cash corn markets have rebounded slightly this month, nationalaverage prices remain within pennies of 5-year lows. Meantime, spot soybeanvalues are the most depressed of the month, while soft red winter wheat priceslanguish at a 2 1/2 year low. Hard wheat markets have also reached down toprices not seen since September or October. With mediocre demand offsetting limited country movement, interior basispremiums were largely unchanged Monday, aside from an average decline of 3/4cent in SRW wheat values. Meanwhile, grain futures continued to weaken overnight, shaving cashcontracts by 7 3/4 cents for soybeans, plus some 2-3 cents for winter wheat and1 cent for corn. "Large domestic supplies and concern over the spread of bird flu continues tokeep pressure on the market," said Doane Agricultural Services. March oats ended e-CBOT trade with gains of 1 1/4 cents, while rice andspring wheat were left untraded.
