Governor hopes letter can shed some light on what happened.
Story by Jack Kane
Email Bio Governor Manchin spent countless hours with the miners family members as they awaited word from inside the mine. And, he later attended memorial services for those that lost their lives. Manchin referred to Randall McCloy as West Virginia's miracle.
Manchin is currently in Europe on a trade mission. But, the governor's press secretary, Tom Hunter, says Manchin hopes Mcloy's letter can shed some light on what happened. Hunter adds, "He's very eager to return to the state for the beginning of public hearings on Tuesday. It is his hope a lot of these questions can be addressed at these hearings".

Dead soldier posts farewell note on MySpace

By Aabhi Raghunathan / St. Petersburg Times

Before signing off his webpage on MySpace.com Monday, Army Pvt. Dylan Meyer typed a farewell note to the world.

"Jesus, I don't know if any of you have heard what has happened to me yet, but I just want to remind you not to be sad. Laugh, that's what lifes about," Meyer wrote. "When it is all said and done, and all the b------t is cleared away, it is the ones you love who you will remember."

The next morning, Meyer was found dead in the Army barracks at Fort Gordon in Georgia. He was 20.

Because the Army is still investigating, officials would not release the cause of Meyer's death or say if he committed suicide. But the note on Meyer's MySpace page seemed to tell many in the tight community at Gibbs High School, which Meyer attended, that he had taken his own life.

April 27th, 2006 7:19 pm3 New Orleans Drainage Pumps Catch Fire
By Brett Martel /
Associated Press

NEW ORLEANS - Three massive drainage pumps caught fire during heavy rain Wednesday and will be out of commission at least a month, city officials said.

Insulated wiring in dozens of pumps, including the three that caught fire, was damaged by salt water that flooded the city after major levee breaks caused by Hurricane Katrina.

"Salt water and 100-year-old insulation on wires is not compatible," said G. Joseph Sullivan, general superintendent for the city's Sewerage and Water Board.

Because the salt-water flooding was caused by breaks in federal levees, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has pledged to pay nearly $37 million to repair the pump motors at 24 stations around the city.

Quality of gasoline declines as prices billow

Aftermarket Business,
May, 2005
by Sativa Ross

Deposit-control additives have been required by the EPA in all gasoline since 1995; however, research shows that as much as 50 percent of the fuel on the market is formulated with less effective additives that employ the minimum additive legally required (known as the lowest additive concentration, or LAC), according to Scott Cushing, sales manager at ChevronTexaco. Although it conforms to EPA regulations, many believe that LAC gasoline provides inadequate valve cleanliness.

"LAC was actually created to help reduce exhaust emissions by keeping fuel injectors and intake valves and ports clean," says Cushing. But the testing requirements were flawed such that even low doses of additives could pass the test, which results in excessive deposits that cause driveability upset. High fuel prices have forced consumers to shop around for the lowest cost, but when they purchase inexpensive gasoline, they may very well be buying LAC gas and unknowingly contributing to engine deposits, explains Cushing.

Disarmament board chooses Iranian as vice chair
By NATHAN GUTTMANWASHINGTON

As the international community looks into ways of stopping Iran from developing nuclear weapons, an Iranian representative was elected to be the vice chair of the UN's disarmament commission.
The commission, which began its annual conference last week, was established by the UN General Assembly in the early 50's in order to promote disarmament and to review international treaties dealing with nuclear energy.
The commission does not have any authority to enforce its decisions and is not connected to the International Atomic Energy Agency, which is the international nuclear watchdog that is now investigating Iran's nuclear program and is expected to report to the UN Security Council by the end of the month.
The new Iranian vice chair, Mehdi Danesh-Yazdi, who is also the country's ambassador to the UN, said last week that Iran will cooperate with the IAEA and will "seek an acceptable venue for holding transparent talks with interested parties." The ambassador, who is one of three vice-chairpersons, said during the meeting of the commission that Israel's nuclear stockpile is among "the major sources of concern with regard to global peace and security."

The President and Page County
by
Karen Kwiatkowskiby Karen Kwiatkowski

More precisely, this story could be called "The President’s Youngest Brother, Marvin Bush, and a Trail of Corrupt Government Officials from Page County, Virginia to Richmond."
For most people, Page County, in the Shenandoah Valley, is a lovely and tranquil place. For others, Page County is a criminal profit center, humming with illegal activity. As a result of this illegal activity, George Bush’s favorite brother is owed $34 million by the residents of Page County. And so far he’s getting his money, every damn penny of it.
Marvin Bush is partner and co-founder of the venture capital firm, Winston Partners, out of McLean, Virginia. Marvin’s company purchased Tellurian, the Page County’s waste management and landfill operator.
In Page County, companies like Tellurian were symbolized by the 18-wheelers that arrived around the clock laden with high-value garbage from out-of-state.
The permit for the Battle Creek landfill allows for 250 tons of garbage per day. The expected carry capacity for an 18-wheeler is about 20 tons, so 250 tons a day would bring a dozen big trucks every day into the Battle Creek facility.
Seriously folks, you can’t make money like that! So an under-the-counter deal was made between some Page County supervisors and Tellurian to illegally accept delivery of 1,500 tons/day at the Battle Creek landfill. The DEQ in Richmond, the Governor’s office (at the time this was Governor Mark Warner, now a 2008 Democratic presidential aspirant, and his Republican Attorney General Jerry Kilgore) and others were aware of the deal. 1,500 tons! That’s six-dozen big trucks a day, and the over-dumping began.
An illegal "amendment" to the Page County contract with Tellurian – increasing the garbage deliveries to 1,500 tons a day – was physically signed by the local County supervisors on 14 December 2001. Within hours of this illegal amendment, Tellurian was purchased by Winston Partners. Several months later, Tellurian was renamed National Waste Services of Virginia. Over-dumping continued, with help from the Virginia DEQ and the governor’s office for nearly two years.
After two years, the
Battle Creek landfill was closed – not for felonious and fraudulent over-dumping by 600% – but instead for minor reasons that would be easily overturned in court, including failure to cover the garbage daily with only one inch of dirt instead of two, too-steep gradients, and the odd missing storm drain.
Upon the closure of the landfill, Marvin Bush’s NWS sued Page County supervisors. The lawsuit alleged that the closure violated the contract and had pushed NWS into bankruptcy. Even though Page County had the right to end the contract without penalty at any time, Page County supervisors agreed not only to have the County’s taxpayers clean up the environmental mess made at the Battle Creek Landfill, but for them to pay NWS’s landfill related debts.
Marvin Bush owed another company, Capitol Source, $34 million as a result of the alleged bankruptcy of NWS. Even though the court imposed no criminal or civil penalties, the settlement agreement deemed that Marvin Bush would receive $34 million, and that he would receive Battle Creek landfill profits until the debt is totally paid.
The general saga has been reported
here and here. It is also well known to federal investigators.
In sum, Page County is handing over the first $34 million of profits from the recently re-opened Battle Creek landfill to Marvin Bush. Presumably, the bribes paid by NWS and Winston Partners to the various government officials – both Democrat and Republican – are covered by the $34 million.
One would think that this is enough criminality for local and state government. But there’s more! It is a Class IV felony – a crime – to falsify County financial records. Yet, according to the Page County Treasurer, the County financial records do not show the huge debt to Winston Partners. This debt, and the destination of years of future profits from the Page County landfill, remains hidden from taxpayers.
It is all so unnecessary. But it is a taste of the big city out here in the country. It is mafia politics in action, from the least of them in the 2001 and 2002 membership of the Page County Board of Supervisors, to the greatest of them in and near the White House.

A fighter enraged by the racism of the US
Malcolm X
Kerri Parke opens our new series on Malcolm X by looking at his political development
More than 40 years after his death, Malcolm X is as relevant as he was in the 1960s. He remains a revered figure of defiance against all forms of racist oppression, especially among young people.
Young Muslim men can certainly identify with him. In fact, I’m sure if he were alive today the powers that be would be accusing him of being a terrorist.
So how did he go from his ordinary life in Michigan, US, to become one of the leading icons of the black civil rights movement?
He was born Malcolm Little in 1925, into intense poverty. He soon experienced the deep racism of US society.

More than one kind of racism
By Don Erler
Special to the Star-Telegram
Way back in the bad old days, state-supported racism was easy to detect. Jim Crow laws put the official sanction of government behind a pair of principles: Black folks are inferior and should be kept segregated from superior whites.
But well over half a century ago, our Congress, executive branch and courts began to dismantle such "de jure" racism. In the 1954 Brown vs. Board of Education case, for example, the Supreme Court declared: "Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal."
Yet earlier this month, the Nebraska Legislature voted to divide Omaha's public schools into three districts, one each dominated by African-Americans, Hispanics and whites.
That state's only black senator, Ernie Chambers, said that the plan would give minorities control over their own school boards. He noted that there "is no intent to create segregation."
Although this proposal will -- as it should -- almost certainly fall to court challenges, it is not as loony as it initially sounds. Chambers observed that because students attend neighborhood schools and because most neighborhoods are ethnically cohesive, Omaha's schools are already segregated. He thinks that letting each major group control its own
educational resources could improve education for minorities.

Legislature Votes For Ten Commandments
OKLAHOMA CITY (April 25, 2006) - Members of the Oklahoma House of Representatives approved legislation today that would give state support to counties that display the Ten Commandments on public property.
Senate Bill 1878, by state Sen. Harry Coates (R-Seminole) and state Rep. Kevin Calvey, would allow the state Attorney General to defend counties from lawsuits challenging public display of the Ten Commandments.
"The Ten Commandments has been one of the most important foundations of civilized law for centuries, but a few zealots want that information suppressed because of religious bigotry," said Calvey, R-Del City. "Senate Bill 1878 simply ensures that fringe groups filing lawsuits aren't allowed to restrict the free speech rights of all Oklahomans."
Provisions of Senate Bill 1878 developed by state Sen. James Williamson, R-Tulsa, would allow county commissioners to approve the display of the Ten Commandments on county property after having been advised by the Office of the District Attorney or the Office of the Attorney General how to do so in a constitutional manner, and would allow the state Attorney General to defend counties from lawsuits challenging such a display.
The legislation also allows money from the state's General Revenue Fund to go to district attorneys to cover the costs of defending legal challenges to displays of the Ten Commandments on public property when the Attorney General declines to provide the legal defense.

Courts to decide if state can fund Baptist school's pharmacy project
By Jack Brammer and Frank Lockwood
HERALD-LEADER STAFF WRITERS
Fletcher takes veto pen to $370 million in projects
Partial list of budget cuts FRANKFORT — Gov. Ernie Fletcher will not veto $10 million for a pharmacy school at the University of the Cumberlands, but the said no money will be used on the project until courts determine if it’s constitutional for state dollars to go to the Baptist school.
Fletcher, on statewide television tonight, said, “I believe we need to answer once and for all in Kentucky the legality of funding private faith-based institutions for public purposes.”
The issue of state funding for private, religious schools grew more intense after the school expelled student Jason Johnson because he said on a Web site that he was gay. The Kentucky Fairness Alliance, which promotes gay rights, had urged Fletcher to veto.
“I think (Gov. Fletcher) chose to fund bigotry and discrimination rather than to promote equality throughout Kentucky,” Johnson said.
He said he was upset with Fletcher’s decision, “not only as a taxpayer, as a citizen of Kentucky.”
Although Fletcher said he would not veto the money, the school apparently won’t get it immediately.
“Before any money is released to the institution, I’m asking the courts to determine the constitutionality of such projects,” Fletcher said.
Senate President David Williams, who had placed in the state budget $10 million for the pharmacy school and $1 million for scholarships there, said he did not think Fletcher’s decision was bad. The legislature approved the budget last month.
A Fletcher veto yesterday would have removed the $11 million from the state budget.
Williams, R-Burkesville, noted that Sen. Julian Carroll, D-Frankfort, and the Fairness Alliance were planning to challenge the funding in court.

BIRMINGHAM, AL, United States (UPI) -- The former leader of Aruba`s investigation of the disappearance of Alabamian Natalee Holloway says his son falsely accused a man who was released Monday.
Gerold Dompig said accusations of his son, Michael, against Geoffrey van Cromvoirt, 19, were part of a dispute among acquaintances that escalated out of control.
'He`s a kid; he got confused and frustrated and he said things he shouldn`t have said,' Dompig told the Birmingham (Ala.) News. 'It went too far.'
Dompig said his son -- angered by media accusations -- responded with talk he had heard about van Cromvoirt.
'One started talking about the other and the other talked back and it becomes something worse than a soap (opera),' Dompig said.
Dompig said he apologized to van Cromvoirt`s family and requested reassignment earlier this month since talk about Holloway`s nearly year-old disappearance adversely affected his family.
Holloway`s mother said she believes the three original suspects are at fault in Holloway`s disappearance.

Red Valley residents say oil company is polluting land, people, animals

http://www.gallupindependent.com/2005/apr/042605rvoil.html

On April 15, two dams holding back oil up in Chuska broke loose from the snow pack. The oily water ran high for three days. The oil spill took out a school bus route when it washed away the road. (Courtesy Photo)

By Brian HasslerStaff Writer

RED VALLEY, Ariz. — The last decade hasn't been an easy one for Tommy Nakai and the residents of Red Valley Chapter.

Annual oil spills have led to contamination in the water and the ground and have caused crops to be destroyed, animals to die and family members to suffer with various illnesses associated with the oil spills.

"A lot of my relatives are having health problems," said Nakai. "I think it's from the oil getting into the water, from the particles of the oil floating in the water. I have an aunt that has breast cancer now because every summer the water is contaminated and they get sick.

" The problems with oil spills began more than 10 years ago when Kerr-McGee Oil Industries, Inc., turned over production from the 18 available wells in the area to Mountain States Petroleum Company.

"Before, when Kerr-McGee was in charge, things were fine," said Anna Frasier. "But since Mountain States took over, we've had spills every year and they don't do anything to stop it."

Those spills have worsened as time has gone by and have increased in size as the number of pumps still in use, nine, caused Mountain States to pump saline into the wells no longer in use.

In 2004, the amount of oil that spilled into the water runoff was equal to 25 barrels of oil, with each barrel containing 50 gallons. While in 2003 there was a spill that contaminated the soil for more than 20 farmers from the foot of Lukachukai Mountain down to the Red Valley Chapter area.

But the spills have come within the past weeks as on Thursday, April 14, when a break in a pipe caused 80 barrels worth of oil to mix with the water runoff that runs through 12 farms and doesn't stop in Red Valley Chapter.

"The water that runs down through the spring in the runoff goes through Red Valley, then through Oak Springs and eventually ends up in the San Juan River," said Frasier. "In all there's been 12 head of cattle that have been killed because of this and it has ruined the fields for growing crops."

Problems with Mountain States have moved the Red Valley Chapter to introduce a resolution that will be presented at its May 15 chapter meeting.

Calling for the Navajo Nation and Mountain States Petroleum Company to cancel the oil and gas lease agreements within the Red Valley Chapter boundaries, the chapter is also requesting for Mountain States to clean up the area that has been contaminated by the oil leaks.

"The Red Valley Chapter community requests that the Navajo Nation and their departments and Bureau of Indian Affairs join forces to immediately address the environmental devastation their community members have been exposed to for years and that the efforts to meet the aforementioned goals be a priority by all involved until such time that the issue is resolved," states the resolution.

Members of the Red Valley Chapter did contact members of the Tribal Environmental Protection Agency, but the muddy conditions caused by the oil spills didn't allow the EPA to thoroughly investigate the spills.

"When the spills happened, we called the EPA," said Lori Goodman.

"Getting a response was like pulling teeth and by the time they came out, on Monday, it had seeped into the ground. This isn't the first time this has happened and there are many families that can no longer farm."

Goodman added that the pipes for the oil, which are to be at least four feet under the ground, are exposed and are driven over constantly by passing vehicles.

In addition to demands for cleanup efforts by Mountain States Petroleum, the Red Valley resolution points to the fact that the chapter is authorized and sanctioned by the Navajo Nation to make decisions concerning such drilling choices due to the Local Governance Act.

The proposed resolution also adds that residents are forced to haul water in from different sources due to contaminated water and that the odors from the wells have caused residents to deal with illnesses that have hurt both themselves and their animals.

"Mountain States is ignoring what the people want for almost 10 years now," said Nakai. "We've contacted the EPA, Mountain States and everyone else and it seems like they are just ignoring it and want the problem to go away."

Red Valley Chapter members will discuss the resolution on May 15. Calls to Mountain States Petroleum Company were not returned.

Just don't believe the 'hype.' It is all nonsense.

The failure of the Bush Administration is obvious. All the 'spin' can't put a good face on this administration. The change in the White House Press Secretary is obvious. This will be Bush's third. I believe Fleisher is still at the Department of Agriculture and author of a hideous book. McClellan will probably follow in his steps.

"My days with The War President."

Rove was a good choice to terminate. As far as I am concerned he has been termintaed. But, you have to remember, Republicans are never terminated, they only disappear out of the public eye. The termination of Rove is obvious. He has been running a campaign since the run for office as Governor. It's never stopped. He belongs at the top of the Republican Party Campaign. As a matter of fact it will be the perfect place for him when he is indicted for outing a CIA agent along with Cheney and Bush.

The House of Bush has always been a House of Cards and it's collapsing.

Keep the perspective. The Turth always prevails and stands when all else fails.

I'll stay in front of the television awhile but I think I' am calling it a week. I have family that needs me.

This is the current UNISYS satellite. (Click on the word UNISYS for motion.) Infrared. Noted twin vortices. Noted the severe turbulence over the Mid-Atlantic. Noted the turbulence of clouds forming a large 'reverse' vortex over Mexico like the edge of a hurricane. Noted the severe turbulence over South America. It won't be long now.

Come people, get over this. It's real. It's not going away. Get rid of the oil in your life.

Update 1: The Nation's Weather

http://www.forbes.com/home/feeds/ap/2006/04/19/ap2682475.html

Heavy snow on Wednesday crippled the northern Plains, while severe rain storms plagued the Southeast.

As much as 20 inches of snow blanketed the area near Harding, S.D., and wind gusts of 68 mph cut visibility to near zero.

A few more inches of snow were expected in the region. Heavy rain raised the risk of flooding in Alabama and Georgia, and a tornado was reported near Hogansville, Ga.

Generally clear skies spread across much of the rest of the nation. The Northeast saw temperatures into the upper 70s, and parts of Texas reached nearly 100 degrees.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a morning low of 5 degrees at Yellowstone Park, Wyo., to a midday high of 96 in Laredo, Texas.

Rove's White House duties cut

WASHINGTON, April 19 (UPI) -- Karl Rove, a long-time adviser to U.S. President George Bush, is leaving his White House post to focus on the politics of the upcoming elections.
Rove was a key force in both of Bush's campaigns for president and, after the 2004 election, was made a deputy chief of staff for policy.
The Washington Post said Rove will be working on the elections next November. Democrats believe the current unpopularity of Bush makes it possible for the minority party to take control of Congress.
Bush and Rove have worked together since the president's run for governor in Texas.
The change was seen as part of the White House realignment set up by the change to Josh Bolten as chief of staff. Bolten took over the position last Friday.
The Post said Rove's White House position is likely to be taken by Joel Kaplan, currently deputy White house budget director.Copyright Political Gateway 2006© Copyright

Tori Clark would be perfect. She has 'mind speak' down so well she looks like she is on Anti-Psychotics. Karl Rove was responsible for the falsification of documents regarding Niger. Rove doesn't 'coordinate'policy, he 'creates' it. Rove and his spin is mostly mute.

Duke?

I think we need to resolve to keep an open mind. There are undoubtedly issues. There is always 'the carrot and skick'' promise of a lawsuit by the victim. That isn't all of it. This young woman provided a service to a group of young men that were supposed to be above reporach. Obviously they are not. The media blitz was the worst idea the defendants ever had. Trying to corrupt the 'imiage' surrounding the victim and setting up a Pre-Defense by releasing information regarding DNA testing was an attempt to bring pressure on the Prosecutor to drop the case. It was the worst strategy. It further hurt the victim . That strategy was less than humble or forgiving. It served to exacerbate the demand for justice. The Duke Shadow of 'priviledge seems to be a bit weighty on this issue. That shadow will be dealt with, if nothing else comes of this case the void between the community and Duke will be clearer. If the entities can fill that void is yet another issue. The community has to be willing and Duke available for change.

Gaining control of Russian Oil

Washington's efforts to depose Vladimir Putin and gain control of Russian Oil reserves
The fax-back service for pre-written newspaper articles must have been working overtime these last few weeks at Langley, Virginia. A flood of articles has appeared in the press attacking the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, especially in the wake of the Beslan massacre. They all have the same structure. Whenever you read the words, "Nothing can excuse the murder of children," you know that a big "But" is looming. Such articles invariably go on to explain why the murder of children is indeed understandable, and the reason usually given is Russian authoritarianism, against which the Chechen rebellion is natural and legitimate.[i]

Robbery, not reconstruction, in Iraq

http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2006/04/18/robbery_not_reconstruction_in_iraq/

By Derrick Z. Jackson, Globe Columnist April 18, 2006
The great liberator of Iraq was actually the hyena that cleaned out the
nation.
Piece by piece, Halliburton over here, a corrupt company over there, we have heard various individual cases of overcharging and fraud by American firms in the reconstruction of Iraq. Last weekend, a Globe story connected some of the dots of corruption. Of $20.7 billion in Iraqi bank accounts and oil revenues seized by the Coalition Provisional Authority in the US-led invasion of Iraq, $14 billion was given out for reconstruction but tens of millions of dollars were unaccounted for. A year ago, an audit by the inspector general found no evidence of work done or goods delivered on 154 of 198 contracts. Sixty cases of potential swindles are under investigation.
Halliburton and its hundreds of millions of dollars of overcharges or baseless costs are well known. But millions more were taken by companies that promised to build or restore libraries or police facilities, or deliver trucks and construction equipment. Money was given to the puppet government with no follow-up. US government investigators can account for only a third of the $1.5 billion given by the CPA to the interim government and it appears that a substantial portion of the $8 billion given to Iraqi ministries went to ''ghost employees.''

Shoot Them in the Cornfields

"Shoot Them in the Cornfields!", a new play by Sophia Murashkovsky, is directed by Yuri Joffe, a noted, Stanislavski prize-winning director from Moscow's Mayakovsky Academic Theater. The play is a fictionalized family history that time-trips between World War II, the Khruschev reign, and the heady days of the coup d'état of 1991. It is a first-person account of an aging Jewish woman, Yelena Levin, and her husband, Mikhail Levin, who were both banished to Butirka; one of the most notorious criminal prisons of the Soviet Union, for entrepreneurship during Nikita Khrushchev's oppressive anti-intellectual reign in 1958.

Doolittle Taps Ken Starr To Fight Abramoff Fallout

http://cbs13.com/topstories/local_story_108120853.html

(AP) ROSEVILLE Congressman John Doolittle of Roseville is hiring a former aide to Whitewater special prosecutor Kenneth Starr to advise him as he fights fallout from his friendship with disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Doolittle says that former federal prosecutor David Barger will advise him on how he should answer media questions about the scandal during his re-election campaign. Doolittle denies wrongdoing and says he has not been contacted by investigators.

What About a Stretch Limo?
New e-mails detail how disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff wooed a former government official with trips, tickets and even a job. All he wanted in return: access to public officials, some government property and maybe a slightly used car.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12357359/site/newsweek/

By Michael Isikoff
Updated: 2:58 p.m. ET April 17, 2006
April 17, 2006 - The disclosure by federal prosecutors of more than 200 e-mails from lobbyist Jack Abramoff sheds new light on how the disgraced Washington power broker worked tirelessly to provide perks and favors to a former Bush administration official in a quest for favorable treatment from the government.

Abramoff, the e-mails show, bombarded then General Services Administration chief of staff David Safavian—who later worked in a senior position at the White House—with offers of sports tickets, golf outings, a lavish overseas trip and a lucrative job with his prestigious lobbying firm. At the same time, the e-mails show, Safavian offered to set up meetings and briefings for Abramoff and his associates and provide insider information that could have potentially benefitted his lobbying clients. Although there is no evidence that any of the deals actually came off, prosecutors say they illustrate how Safavian, who is due to stand trial next month on charges of lying to the FBI, “spent his energies looking out [for] Mr. Abramoff’s interests.”
In an Aug. 12, 2002, e-mail, Safavian responded to one of Abramoff’s associates who asked about arranging a GSA briefing for the chief executive of a software company being represented by Abramoff’s firm. “I’d be happy to put that together,” Safavian wrote. “What I would suggest is that we do two meetings … one with me where I can put on a dog and pony show, and a follow up with our commissioner at the [GSA’s] Federal Technology Service.” The commissioner, Safavian added, “has some critical information she can import to you and your client. I can orchestrate an impressive meeting with your client with relative ease.”
The timing of that and other e-mail exchanges is potentially important because they came just days after Safavian returned from a $130,000 golfing outing to the famed St. Andrews Course in Scotland that was organized by Abramoff. The itinerary for the trip, disclosed for the first time, show that the Abramoff party—which also included Ohio Rep. Robert Ney and well-connected Republican Party strategist Ralph Reed—involved a non-stop whirl of golfing and expensive dinners that the Abramoff party was driven to by “luxury coach.” At the last minute, a London leg of the trip was added by Abramoff—apparently so he could have a meeting with one of his clients, Alexander Koulakovsky, a Russian energy executive whose role in financing congressional trips for Rep. Tom Delay and a non-profit group, the U.S. Family Network, run by Delay’s former chief of staff, Ed Buckham, has come under scrutiny as part of the Abramoff investigation.

The Robot has more to say than Anderson does. Can't be good news.

If Bush abdicates his authority to Cheney to protect our intelligence agents while abdicating his brain to Rove what makes anyone think Bush actually works for a living. Having Bolten 'play politics' with the White House and it's influence by allowing a Chief of Staff reveal high level nominations and their qualifications only fits the profile of a president that is completely inept.

The CONTENT of the meetings by Rumsfeld should be revealed if indeed it is a valid defense. Bush has a way of censoring the issues he doesn't want revealed while revealing the issues that defeat Democrats. I don't care how many meetings Rumsfeld holds if it doesn't get the job done while victimizing the people of Iraq in prisons; what good do the meetings do? Rumsfeld personally influenced the sexual conduct of a female interrogator with detainees in Gitmo. I find that demeaning as a female and appauling to realize such issues are supervised by a Secretary of Defense. He persoanlly supervised the sexual intimidation of Gitmo but not the antics and deaths at Abu Ghraib. There is something "W"rong with that analogy.

If 'the word' got around that Rumsfeld was personally overseeing sexual interrogations of detainees at Gitmo then I know where the Abu Ghraib prison guards got their ideas. There aren't that many female officers that would be in contact with prisoners. The 'tactics' in Gitmo received clout due to Rumsfeld involvement. Ms. England attempted to achieve in Baghdad what they were trying to achieve in Gitmo.

Global warming sparks a scramble for black gold under retreating ice

http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,,1755765,00.html

BUSH is challenging the sovereignty of Canada.

A dispute between the US and Canada over rights to shipping lanes through the North-West Passage flared up again this year, with Canada promising to step up its military presence to protect what it regards as its territory and the US sees as international waters. Norway and Russia are squabbling over the Barents Sea, while Denmark is eyeing the north pole itself.

Ecosystem Responses to Climate Warming

http://www.whrc.org/borealNAmerica/eco_res.htm

Rather we have found that while tundra vegetation experienced an increase in both peak photosynthesis and growing season length between 1982 and 2003, many forested areas actually experienced a decline in photosynthetic activity and showed no systematic change in growing season length. Climatic warming occurred across the entire region, but the change in the forest response indicates that long-term changes may not be predictable from initial, short-term observations. Fire disturbance has also increased with the warming (see related section on this topic) but does not explain the decline in forest photosynthetic activity.

The segment about the Polar Bear was very well done. Want a truce? The War Party in the Oval Office hasn't surrended to Global Warming initiatives yet. Truces when it comes to saving a planet are dangerous alliances.

I appreciate the focus. Sincerely. You want to save lives? Then do it. Don't sponsor war or the people that advocate it. You cannot save a planet with chronic wars.

Enough for now. I am not 'fascinated' by murder.

Anderson Cooper's Propaganda is fitting for promoting Rummy's lies

1000

The history of the retired generals with the active military is entangled. All the 'talking head' paid television generals could not provide any perspective without their 'internal active military' contacts. Their opinons are not valid simply because they 'provide' commercial salesmanship and not an advisory perspective. CNN promotes oil and military interests as well as Arab stockholders, their paid advisors will reflect those priorities.

A classic example of the relationship of the retired to the active military was revealed in the accident of the USS Greenville.

US Nuclear Sub Sinks Japanese Fishing Training Ship off of Diamond Head, O'ahu, Hawaii

http://gohawaii.about.com/library/weekly/aa021001a.htm

On 9 February 2001, while hosting a "Distinguished Visitor" cruise for several civilian guests, Greeneville conducted an Emergency Main Ballast Tank Blow, a dramatic maneuver that brings the boat to the surface so rapidly her bow rises high out of the water. Two of the civilian guests were at the submarine’s controls during this maneuver.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Greeneville

WITH THAT TYPE OF entanglement the retired officers are as qualified to speak out as those on active duty.

Don Rumsfeld has been involved up to his eyeballs with inappropriate use of female interrogation officers as well as cruel and 'strange' techniques.

What Rumsfeld knew
Interviews with high-ranking military officials shed new light on the role Rumsfeld played in the harsh treatment of a Guantánamo detainee.
By Michael Scherer and Mark Benjamin /
Salon
April 14, 2006 Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld was personally involved in the late 2002 interrogation of a high-value al-Qaida detainee known in intelligence circles as "the 20th hijacker." He also communicated weekly with the man in charge of the interrogation, Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Miller, the controversial commander of the Guantánamo Bay detention center.
During the same period, detainee Mohammed al-Kahtani suffered from what Army investigators have called "degrading and abusive" treatment by soldiers who were following the interrogation plan Rumsfeld had approved. Kahtani was forced to stand naked in front of a female interrogator, was accused of being a homosexual, and was forced to wear women's underwear and to perform "dog tricks" on a leash. He received 18-to-20-hour interrogations during 48 of 54 days.
Little more than two years later, during an investigation into the mistreatment of prisoners at Guantánamo, Rumsfeld expressed puzzlement at the notion that his policies had caused the abuse. "He was going, 'My God, you know, did I authorize putting a bra and underwear on this guy's head?'" recalled Lt. Gen. Randall M. Schmidt, an investigator who interviewed Rumsfeld twice in early 2005.

April 14, 2006 — Given the image that major western leaders, financial institutions and NGO communities have had of Meles Zenawi as a progressive leader, and given the massive moral, financial and military support he has received from donor nations over the past fifteen years, the measures actively undertaken taken against him by the Ethiopian Diaspora - staging demonstrations, writing letters and articles, organizing candlelight vigils, engaging in lobbying activities as well as waging this war on the diplomatic front - are indispensable tools and forces towards achieving the intended goals: public awareness, helping to show the ugly face of the repressive regime of Meles Zenawi to western governments and the international community at large. While completely believing that the progression of current engagements of the Ethiopian Diaspora are a crucial element of our broader resistance to help free our people from prolonged economic poverty, political repression by successive regimes and uninterrupted, multiple tragedies, it is also vitally important to realize

COOPER: Tonight an animal rescue story that we hope has a happy ending. A familiar face disappeared from its New York neighborhood 13 days ago. But just because she vanished doesn't mean she has been silenced and that is a very good thing CNN's Randi Kaye explains.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

RANDI KAYE, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): She was last seen at this delicatessen in New York City. Her name is Molly. She's 11 months old with bright green eyes.

PETER MYERS, MOLLIE'S OWNER: I'm told that a dog chased Molly into a gap between two buildings.

KAYE: Peter Myers is not Molly's father. He is her owner. Molly is a black cat. She was on mouse patrol inside Myers' deli when she slipped through a crack in the wall. Thirteen days have passed since. A massive effort is under way to save her.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Molly, we hear you. Everybody wants you come out. We're not going to hurt you. Molly, please.

KAYE: Molly's still meowing. We heard it through the wall for ourselves late Thursday night. The landmark building was built in 1849. So tearing down a wall to reach her could weaken it. Are you concerned at all about the cat's condition?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yeah we're concerned about dehydration at this point. I still think he's in fairly decent shape. But we're starting to get into a critical time.

KAYE: They tried cat food, cages, still nothing. To catch a cat, you have to get creative. So animal control brought in a handful of kittens like this one. This is Kissy and she's just about five weeks old. They put them all inside one of the holes in the building hoping that the cat Molly would hear their cries and come to them. But after 35 minutes, still no Molly. A tiny video camera attached to a plumber's snake gave rescuers a glimpse of Molly Wednesday.

SCHERMER: When we saw Molly, we saw the perfect outline of two eyes, a, you know, curving down nose the way those do and Mike, who is from animal control saw whiskers. KAYE: But just how far should the city go to save Molly?

PETER FOGES, ONLOOKER: Well I think they should knock the house down. And I think it would be wonderful if they did something really miraculous and saved this little cat.

KAYE: Molly's owner is convinced she's enjoying the spotlight.

MYERS: I'm beginning to think that she's enjoying this and she's -- she's in the back of his building loving it is all. KAYE: Still, Myers, who has seen the return of mice to his shop since his faithful feline disappeared hopes Molly is home soon. Randi Kaye, CNN, New York.

Symptoms

Background: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a pathological anxiety that usually occurs after an individual experiences or witnesses severe trauma that constitutes a threat to the physical integrity or life of the individual or of another person.
The individual initially responds with intense fear, helplessness, or horror. The person later develops a response to the event that is characterized by persistently reexperiencing the event, with resultant symptoms of numbness, avoidance, and hyperarousal. These symptoms result in clinically significant distress or functional impairment. To meet the full criteria for PTSD, these symptoms should be present for a minimum of 1 month following the initial traumatic event.

The 28th annual National Hurricane Conference is officially underway
Orlando, Florida - Weather experts from around the country have gathered in Orlando. And of course that includes our own Chief Meteorologist Dick Fletcher.
The conference is three days long with the opening session taking place earlier this afternoon. The first speaker was Max Mayfield, the director of the National Hurricane Center in Miami. Right off the bat, he set a very ominous tone for this season. We all thought we saw the worst that it could be last year. Max wanted us to change that mindset.
Max Mayfield:"It could never be worse as far as deaths and damage than we had last year. And today I'm hoping to convince you otherwise."
Mayfield basically wanted us to expect similar figures from 2005 for
For example, 2006 could see the same type of devastation...as 2005's final tally came out to one-hundred-and four billion dollars. Something else very interesting he mentioned.
We originally thought there were twenty-seven storms in 2005...there was actually twenty-eight. He went back and revisited some other storm systems and added an un-named subtropical system. There was however, one glimpse of hope for the upcoming storm season...and that came from forecaster Dr. William Gray.
Dr. William Gray, Renowned Hurricane Forecaster:"I would say the people in the southeast Florida Miami area of Tampa being hit is much less."
However, Dr. Gray wants to caution us that while the chance is small it's always still there. And as Max Mayfield has said many times it only takes one hurricane to hit your community...and you've had a bad year.

Long about now with generals outside the administration are bringing the argument to the people while those still able to contend with Bush and Cheney hold their positions within the US Military watching all the 'issues' take form at the Homeland.

We may here from another CNN journalist, about how 'innocent' Bush was as a customer of intelligence. As a customrer of the USA intelligence , the Commander and Chief can't possitbly be held responsiblie forhis actions regarding Iraq including outing a CIA agents vindictively.

To get back to Michael Brown. Today CNN 'staged' an event on behalf of Michael Brown's negligence to the 'subject' he is of course an expert of. Hurricanes. See, St. Bernard Parish must have been offended by the fact Mr. Brown stayed on after his gross negligence. They were probably as enraged as therest of the nation at the 'idea' Michael Brown started aconsulting agency. So, Mr. Brown was sipposed to be in St. Bernard Parish today as aconsultant fro hire because he knwos all too well 'the 'red tape.'he experienced while the administrator of FEMA.

So, while Michael Brown was looking forward to greasing his palm with St. Bernard Parish public money, the town council went to Orlando for the Hurricane Conference. Realizing too late tha he was not at the opening of the conference, CNN 'staged a responsiblie 'moment' .with a Flashing screen behind him advertising "CNN Live" and Mr. Brown's 'product' of which the name isn't worth mentioning. He was positioned in front of a building and no one could see the sign because his basically 'immobile head never moved enough to know exactly where he was. It was 'risky' enough to believe he could have revealed his segment as a fraud if he just moved his head enough but he was well schooled enough. There was no one else from the convention ANYWHERE in the closely cropped picture. Now, I suppose St. Bernard Parish could have been set up for this scandal, but, I don't think so.

Update 5: Brown Won't Serve As La. Parish Adviser By RUKMINI CALLIMACHI , 04.12.2006, 09:43 PM

Under mounting criticism, former FEMA chief Michael Brown said Wednesday that he will not serve as a paid consultant to St. Bernard Parish, a New Orleans suburb hit hard by Hurricane Katrina. Brown, whose name became synonymous with government ineptitude after Hurricane Katrina, had planned to meet with officials in the parish Thursday to help them navigate the recovery process. He canceled his trip after residents protested. Brown made the decision after meeting in Orlando, Fla., with parish President Henry "Junior" Rodriguez, where both were attending a national hurricane preparedness conference. "I talked to Junior Rodriguez tonight," Brown said Wednesday by telephone, "and I told Junior, 'My offer still stands. If you need advice, I can continue to do that free of charge for you. But why should I come down there and stir up controversy?'"

I sincerely hope Michael Brown was exposed by St.Bernard Parish for the complete fraud he is AGAIN ! I congratulate them. They may have sent out a very loud warning to the future victims of the 'fodder' of the Bush Administration.

Aaron. You are the most dedicated and decent journalist television has witnessed for being a man during your time at CNN while the rest are nothing more than puppets to the White House. I admire you realizing more today the true feeling of 'freedom' and liberated thought.
