Searches Highlight FBI Corruption Probes
By MARK SHERMANThe Associated PressTuesday, May 23, 2006; 4:13 AM
WASHINGTON -- FBI agents bearing search warrants made rare appearances this month at the CIA and on Capitol Hill, high-profile raids that showcase a heightened effort to go after public corruption.
The head of the FBI's criminal division was reluctant to say much about those searches. "We go where the evidence leads us," said James W. "Chip" Burrus Jr.

Dick Cheney Owes District $3,000

http://www.dcist.com/archives/2006/05/23/dick_cheney_owe.php

The city calculates the cost of an officer at $41 an hour, not counting overtime; a car costs $12 an hour. Protecting the vice president for two hours costs more than $3,000. In the grand scheme of things, this may not break the budget. But does it make sense for the residents of the District to pay for protecting the vice president’s visit to eat a few crab cakes at his daughter’s book party?

Of the 85 Metro officers involved in security for Cheney, 41 were on overtime, Aaron said, and a Metro officer making a top-dollar pay rate makes $26.59 per hour. By that math, if all 85 officers were making that top rate, the city would pay out more than $8,000 in overtime and about $5,800 in regular pay.

If Wall Street Earnings Are Best Yet, Why Is Morgan Distressed?
May 22 (Bloomberg) -- From Canary Wharf to Hong Kong's Exchange Square to Wall Street, earnings have never been better for the securities industry. That's why just about everyone from Morgan Stanley to Deutsche Bank AG to Credit Suisse Group is betting on the bust they know is coming.

Teams of bankers and traders who specialize in distressed debt, the bonds and loans of troubled or bankrupt companies, are springing up even as stock and commodity prices extend three- year gains. They're preparing for a repeat of 2002, when a market rally and the merger mania of the Internet bubble gave way to a credit crunch that claimed debtors from US Airways Group Inc. to Marconi Plc.

Never mind that profits at the biggest U.S. companies have increased at least 10 percent for 11 straight quarters. With inflation accelerating and interest rates climbing, the prospect of a new wave of debt defaults is tantalizing traders. The same securities firms that arranged sales of a record $921 billion of high-risk bonds and leveraged loans last year are now looking to profit when the easy money runs out and investors panic.

The bin Laden piece is complete hogwash. CNN admitted it cannot validate the sourceof the tape. THEN DON'T SHOW IT AS IF YOU CANNOT validate it. What makes you think Americans are interested in your trumpted up fiction. I am quite surprised at Nic Robertson's willingness to cooperate. That is a darn shame. It disqualifies him in any of this as 'expertise' work. If CNN can not verify their source then it is irresponsible journalism and amounts to nothing more 'fastasy on the net.' Was the website accepting donations for it's charity work at the same time?

Chicago plans privatisation of airportBy Doug Cameron in ChicagoPublished: May 22 2006 22:08 Last updated: May 22 2006 22:08
Chicago is poised to appoint a financial adviser for the planned privatisation of Midway airport, the latest in a series of assets the city is leasing to balance its budget.
The city last year raised $1.82bn (€1.4bn, £960m) from the 99-year lease of the Skyway toll road linking Chicago with Indiana, and last week outlined plans to lease the largest underground car park in the US to the private sector in what would be the country's first privatisation of a public parking system.
