You are all ludicrous. North Korea is not news. They carried out successfully a test launch of it's missiles across the Sea of Japan. They'll do it again. North Korea has no capacity to date to carry nuclear weapons aloft. Any discussion otherwise is mute.
Bush began this international circus when he made a hate filled speech to begin his illegal march into Iraq. He called North Korea a member of the "Axis of Evil." That fictious, dangerous and bigoted depiction of North Koreans, Iranians and Iraqis. It will be ultimately upto Bush to resolve a peace with North Korea and roll back all the damage done to date since North Korea removed the seals from it's nuclear facility after the Axis of Evil speech.
Currently, six member talks primarily seek stability to the region. Every nation has a defense. It has a right to develope any and all defenses to protect it's nation. That is exactly what Kim has done today. The 4th of July ? can ? be seen as a message to the USA but that is nothing but narcisstic nonsense. It is an insignificant date to every other nation in the six member council. All have their own national holidays and all have had events happen on them in some fashion they would have seen as internationally adverse.

Currently and after over 50 years oppression by the USA at the DMZ, North Koreans live in complete poverty, vulnerable to faminine, disease and starvation. That is a direct result of it's closed policy to the world outside of it's only economic trading partner, China. North Korea practices widespread nationalism and protectionism. It doesn't allow foreign aide workers in because they seek exploitation of the events and compromise any 'esteem' North Korea has left. The West has sentenced the people of North Korea to doom for decades now.
It has to stop.

The United Nations Security Council will meet without event. North Korea will be discussed. China will veto any economic sanctions. Russia will be less interested in a veto except for upholding any understanding with China's Friendship Pact. The other members will have various statements of diplomacy. Life will go on as always because Bush has no solutions or apologies for any of his inflammatory remarks.
Militarily. We know the Patriot System works against Scuds. We know allies such as South Korea and Japan have advanced warning systems against against medium range missiles. The long range program is still very much in the experimental stages and poses no problems. There is no telling that it ever will.

USA Domestically. The Republicans will try to snowball the issue into a political 'chip' for November elections seeking monies for nuclear weapon proliferation, spending programs for this reason or that, increases in military budgets, mo' money for the missile shield, and basically spin it to create high levels of anxiety before November to reinvigorate their Culture of Fear.
