I was impressed by this poll:
Iraq drives Bush's rating to new low
Americans pessimistic on war as president launches new push
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/03/13/bush.poll/index.html
There was this article in the Washington Post. The words are revealing.
Bush Calls on Iraqis to Embrace Compromise
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/13/AR2006031300785.html
COMPROMISE. Insurgencies are supposed to stop because there is compromise.
Right.
The article goes on: "President urges leaders to form "unity government" to fend off increasingly lethal insurgency."
INCREASING Letal Insurgency.
Those are Bush's words?
... increasing lethal insurgency.
I thought he said we were making progress. That does not sound like progress to me.
We need to leave Iraq to the Iraqis. The increasing insurgency is a Civil War and we don't need to practice ethnic cleansing. Obviously, short of a political solution there is nothing Bush seems to be able to do. Political solutions don't require the USA military.
We do not need to cause more problems for Iraq. We need to cause less. Representative Murtha is correct. We need to redeploy out of Iraq and allow the citizens there to regroup and hopefully find peace among themselves. We are causing much of the insurgency and Civil War. The Shi'ites are seen as favoring the US Military's intervention. That is why they are sustaining such attacks.
I'm going to read Professor Krugman's editorial and call it a night.
Later....
