Apr 15 - In addition to citing a Halliburton subsidiary for failing "to adequately control and report costs" in its Iraq oilfield reconstruction work, the office charged with managing the reconstruction of post-invasion Iraq acknowledged last week that contracting rules and procedures established by the former Coalition Provisional Authority have contributed to the sluggishness of reconstruction efforts.
Kellogg Brown & Root is the largest US military contractor in Iraq, and the State Department’s Iraq Reconstruction Management Office (IRMO) said KBR has performed so poorly in its work repairing the country’s southern oil pipelines that US officials at one point threatened to terminate the company’s arrangement and have begun working with another contracting firm to finish uncompleted work, a recent State Department report to Congress reveals.

Attorneys agree to fix for hill behind Pitcairn apartment building, as lawsuit goes on
Thursday, November 10, 2005
By Bill Heltzel, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Who is to blame for the landslide can be decided later, but for now, attorneys agree, something must be done to stabilize the hillside behind a Pitcairn apartment building.
"I think everyone agrees on the need to stabilize the hillside, with the upcoming winter," Monroeville Solicitor Bruce Dice said last week. "The real mediation will take place in the spring."
The issue concerns a six-unit apartment building that D&B owns at the foot of a hill at 288-298 Second St., Pitcairn.
A landslide damaged a retaining wall behind the apartments in March 2004. D&B cleared away the mud and replaced the wall, but new landslides damaged the replacement wall.
D&B sued first. In January the company accused Monroeville, Pitcairn and Waste Management Inc. of creating conditions that caused the landslides.
