No doubt people are terrified of their government but China does complain to North Korea about border crossings. The USA complains about border crossings as well. North Korea is a third world country and seeks not to anger China by controlling the people rather than the symptoms of border crossings. China has it's problems, too. It has a population of over a billion people. China could be approached about these issues as well, but, they will meet criticism with complaints of drug trafficking and the like. Amman. Al Zarqawi. Jordan is a moderate nation. They feel very differently than others in countries that surrounds Jordan. We could get into how they became a moderate nation but that is fruitless. Jordan's sophistication has increased and continues to strive to solve the problems of it's citizens in the face of far less national income. King Abdullah has taken a stronger appearance of Islam, especially since this past Ramadan. I think that is fine. He has been a leader of peace and more than likely feels his identity to Islam is better overt so there is no question about his faithfulness among people who would follow him.

Arrests begin as Amman blasts are tied to Iraq

The Jordanian Government says at least one of the suicide bombers who murdered 56 people in Amman this week spoke Arabic with an Iraqi accent, linking the country's worst domestic terrorist attack to events in its war-torn neighbour.
Officials said a number of people - Jordanians and foreign Arabs, including Iraqis - have already been arrested as King Abdullah's security forces sweep for those behind Wednesday night's co-ordinated attacks on the Hyatt, Radisson SAS and Days Inn hotels in Amman.

Hurricane Katrina caused extensive failures of the levees and flood walls protecting New Orleans, Louisiana. The subsequent investigations by civil engineers are attempting to find the underlying reason for the failures.

The original design for the steel sheet foundations for the flood walls showed a proposed depth of 10 feet, and the design documents show calculations were made with the wall base at 12.8 feet. According to a New Orleans engineer, the depth was apparently increased later, to 17-foot depth, and this is what was built. However, on November 10 an article in the Times Picayunne reported that investigations using sonar by a forensic engineering team from the Louisiana State University show that at one point near the 17th Street Canal breach the piling extends just 10 feet below sea level, 7 feet shorter than the Corps of Engineers had maintained.
"The corps keeps saying the piles were 17 feet, but their own drawings show them to be 10," van Heerden said. "This is the first time anyone has been able to get a firm fix on what's really down there. And, so far, it's just 10 feet. Not nearly deep enough."
According to Professor Robert Bea, a geotechnical engineer from the University of California, Berkeley, it is likely that the Katrina storm surge created unusual subterranean pressures under the walls. Those pressures appear to have made soil under the sheet pile weaker so that it gave way, moving the steel sheet-pile-and-concrete walls along with it. But engineers studying the levees also say that other, unknown factors, including structural problems in the walls, could also have contributed to the breaches.
