I suppose. You know JFK, Jr. did some outrageous things in his life. He was vicious when it came to the press and Carolyn. I do believe the pressure of public life through him over the edge confronting paparazzi in NYC. Ah, to have it back to focus on in the American Press. To have "George" magazine back.
Being a Kennedy is hazardous. I do believe Patrick Kennedy was involved with medication that caused him some issues in his personal life. The 'so called' scandals revolved around priviledge and interpersonal relationships. It is well known that people with issues surrounding medication dependency, perscribed or not, manifest behaviors in their personal relationships that are dysfunctional. It's the medication ruling their lives that causes the dysfunction. I congratulate Mr. Kennedy for going to the Mayo Clinic. He was taking some very dangerous mixtures that we know of, he needed to be monitored to be sure all the medications were replaced with safe combinations. I look forward to his return.

Anderson, the 911 Memorial is not a military memorial. It is in the middle of New York City, the capital of the world. Had the Bush administration expedited the will of the families and friends of those murdered in NYC by funding the Memorial five years ago, the cost would have been much, much less. The cost of construction is skyrocketing because of the heavy dependency on OIL. Perhaps Dick Cheney could get Halliburton to DONATE all the fuel necessary for all the contruction of the Memorial. It would cut the cost drastically.

S&P raises Halliburton's debt ratings

NEW YORK, May 5 (Reuters) - Standard & Poor's on Friday raised Halliburton Co.'s debt ratings, citing the company's improved operating performance.
"The ratings upgrade is based on marked improvement in Halliburton's operating performance in its oilfield services business, that, coupled with meaningful debt reduction over the past year, has significantly improved its credit measures," S&P said in a statement.
Also, Halliburton's management has taken steps to spin off the KBR Inc. business unit, which has helped improve credit quality.
S&P raised Halliburton's corporate credit and senior debt ratings to "BBB-plus," which is three notches above junk, from "BBB." The outlook is stable, the ratings agency said.

•More tolerance of risk.
... the article continues. If the infrastructure of the USA is in decline then the solvency of the debt of the country is in question. So what has Aaron Brown been up to since leaving CNN over six months ago? The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Tim Cuprisin caught up with the ex-anchor and finds out that he has a lot to say, but really can't say anything because he still has another 18 months to go on his CNN contract.
"Because I have an employer, I can't do as much of it as I would like, and I can't always say everything I would like to. That's OK. I get their position."
Brown reveals he has been approached to do game shows, but he'd love to do an interview show. Something between what Larry King does and what Charlie Rose does. I can picture that.

The issue of preparedness and security belongs at the state level under this administration. They have proved over and over again they are unable to protect this country from everything from terrorists, to outsourcing and economic decline measured best by the direct ratio of national debt to economic improvemnt. Bush is buying an economy with debt. That is not an economy, it does't grow. It only exploits and rewards those that reap the profits from the exploitation.
The states need to formulate their own plans realizing Bush has washinged his hands of the Bird Flu Pandemic in time to do something in time. He isn't compeltely stuipd. He knows when people's lives are on the line and when he can't do anything about it. The Governors are the heroes here and it should be an election issue.

There isn't anything 'secure' or 'predictable' or 'stable' about the future for this 2- something generation. There are Republican criminals running the country that line businesses with the promise of our children and their enjoyment in life. For small business owners like these, the problems caused by soaring energy prices go far beyond filling gas tanks. Freight costs are continually rising, materials are getting more expensive by the month and travel is becoming too costly. Companies are finding whatever ways they can to cut costs, but many are faced with the prospect of raising their own prices - a move they fear could hurt their competitiveness.
Two years ago, a barrel of crude was selling for $40, an astronomical sum at the time. Now, it's in the low $70 range, while gasoline, which sold for about $1.80 in early May 2004 now costs over $3 in many places.
"It's an interesting dilemma," Boegnik said of rising prices.

I doubt seriously the FBI that exposed Moussoui thought he was a 'small fish.' Anderson obviously forgets that Moussoui was stopped by the FBI. He was unsuccessful. He was nabbed and compromised so that he could not participate. Given those facts, Moussoui can only be a small fish if all the other 19 terrorists from 911 were.

Dead soldier posts farewell note on MySpace

Before signing off his webpage on MySpace.com Monday, Army Pvt. Dylan Meyer typed a farewell note to the world.
"Jesus, I don't know if any of you have heard what has happened to me yet, but I just want to remind you not to be sad. Laugh, that's what lifes about," Meyer wrote. "When it is all said and done, and all the b------t is cleared away, it is the ones you love who you will remember."
The next morning, Meyer was found dead in the Army barracks at Fort Gordon in Georgia. He was 20.
Because the Army is still investigating, officials would not release the cause of Meyer's death or say if he committed suicide. But the note on Meyer's MySpace page seemed to tell many in the tight community at Gibbs High School, which Meyer attended, that he had taken his own life.

NEW ORLEANS - Three massive drainage pumps caught fire during heavy rain Wednesday and will be out of commission at least a month, city officials said.
Insulated wiring in dozens of pumps, including the three that caught fire, was damaged by salt water that flooded the city after major levee breaks caused by Hurricane Katrina.
"Salt water and 100-year-old insulation on wires is not compatible," said G. Joseph Sullivan, general superintendent for the city's Sewerage and Water Board.
Because the salt-water flooding was caused by breaks in federal levees, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has pledged to pay nearly $37 million to repair the pump motors at 24 stations around the city.

Deposit-control additives have been required by the EPA in all gasoline since 1995; however, research shows that as much as 50 percent of the fuel on the market is formulated with less effective additives that employ the minimum additive legally required (known as the lowest additive concentration, or LAC), according to Scott Cushing, sales manager at ChevronTexaco. Although it conforms to EPA regulations, many believe that LAC gasoline provides inadequate valve cleanliness.
"LAC was actually created to help reduce exhaust emissions by keeping fuel injectors and intake valves and ports clean," says Cushing. But the testing requirements were flawed such that even low doses of additives could pass the test, which results in excessive deposits that cause driveability upset. High fuel prices have forced consumers to shop around for the lowest cost, but when they purchase inexpensive gasoline, they may very well be buying LAC gas and unknowingly contributing to engine deposits, explains Cushing.

Disarmament board chooses Iranian as vice chair

As the international community looks into ways of stopping Iran from developing nuclear weapons, an Iranian representative was elected to be the vice chair of the UN's disarmament commission.
The commission, which began its annual conference last week, was established by the UN General Assembly in the early 50's in order to promote disarmament and to review international treaties dealing with nuclear energy.
The commission does not have any authority to enforce its decisions and is not connected to the International Atomic Energy Agency, which is the international nuclear watchdog that is now investigating Iran's nuclear program and is expected to report to the UN Security Council by the end of the month.
The new Iranian vice chair, Mehdi Danesh-Yazdi, who is also the country's ambassador to the UN, said last week that Iran will cooperate with the IAEA and will "seek an acceptable venue for holding transparent talks with interested parties." The ambassador, who is one of three vice-chairpersons, said during the meeting of the commission that Israel's nuclear stockpile is among "the major sources of concern with regard to global peace and security."

PADUCAH, Ky. The new cleanup contractor at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant has cut 150 jobs.But Paducah Remediation Services retained 400 out of about 550 people who had worked for the former contractor, Bechtel Jacobs. The new contractor took over yesterday.
The former workers are entitled to vocational and occupational skills training, job-search and other assistance.
Paducah Remediation Services and government officials say the cuts are based on a new 192 (M) million contract.
Some workers say they still hope to be rehired if the company is allowed to accelerate work.

More precisely, this story could be called "The President’s Youngest Brother, Marvin Bush, and a Trail of Corrupt Government Officials from Page County, Virginia to Richmond."
For most people, Page County, in the Shenandoah Valley, is a lovely and tranquil place. For others, Page County is a criminal profit center, humming with illegal activity. As a result of this illegal activity, George Bush’s favorite brother is owed $34 million by the residents of Page County. And so far he’s getting his money, every damn penny of it.
Marvin Bush is partner and co-founder of the venture capital firm, Winston Partners, out of McLean, Virginia. Marvin’s company purchased Tellurian, the Page County’s waste management and landfill operator.
In Page County, companies like Tellurian were symbolized by the 18-wheelers that arrived around the clock laden with high-value garbage from out-of-state.
The permit for the Battle Creek landfill allows for 250 tons of garbage per day. The expected carry capacity for an 18-wheeler is about 20 tons, so 250 tons a day would bring a dozen big trucks every day into the Battle Creek facility.
Seriously folks, you can’t make money like that! So an under-the-counter deal was made between some Page County supervisors and Tellurian to illegally accept delivery of 1,500 tons/day at the Battle Creek landfill. The DEQ in Richmond, the Governor’s office (at the time this was Governor Mark Warner, now a 2008 Democratic presidential aspirant, and his Republican Attorney General Jerry Kilgore) and others were aware of the deal. 1,500 tons! That’s six-dozen big trucks a day, and the over-dumping began.
An illegal "amendment" to the Page County contract with Tellurian – increasing the garbage deliveries to 1,500 tons a day – was physically signed by the local County supervisors on 14 December 2001. Within hours of this illegal amendment, Tellurian was purchased by Winston Partners. Several months later, Tellurian was renamed National Waste Services of Virginia. Over-dumping continued, with help from the Virginia DEQ and the governor’s office for nearly two years.
After two years, the Battle Creek landfill was closed – not for felonious and fraudulent over-dumping by 600% – but instead for minor reasons that would be easily overturned in court, including failure to cover the garbage daily with only one inch of dirt instead of two, too-steep gradients, and the odd missing storm drain.
Upon the closure of the landfill, Marvin Bush’s NWS sued Page County supervisors. The lawsuit alleged that the closure violated the contract and had pushed NWS into bankruptcy. Even though Page County had the right to end the contract without penalty at any time, Page County supervisors agreed not only to have the County’s taxpayers clean up the environmental mess made at the Battle Creek Landfill, but for them to pay NWS’s landfill related debts.
Marvin Bush owed another company, Capitol Source, $34 million as a result of the alleged bankruptcy of NWS. Even though the court imposed no criminal or civil penalties, the settlement agreement deemed that Marvin Bush would receive $34 million, and that he would receive Battle Creek landfill profits until the debt is totally paid.
The general saga has been reported here and here. It is also well known to federal investigators.
In sum, Page County is handing over the first $34 million of profits from the recently re-opened Battle Creek landfill to Marvin Bush. Presumably, the bribes paid by NWS and Winston Partners to the various government officials – both Democrat and Republican – are covered by the $34 million.
One would think that this is enough criminality for local and state government. But there’s more! It is a Class IV felony – a crime – to falsify County financial records. Yet, according to the Page County Treasurer, the County financial records do not show the huge debt to Winston Partners. This debt, and the destination of years of future profits from the Page County landfill, remains hidden from taxpayers.
It is all so unnecessary. But it is a taste of the big city out here in the country. It is mafia politics in action, from the least of them in the 2001 and 2002 membership of the Page County Board of Supervisors, to the greatest of them in and near the White House.

More than one kind of racism

Way back in the bad old days, state-supported racism was easy to detect. Jim Crow laws put the official sanction of government behind a pair of principles: Black folks are inferior and should be kept segregated from superior whites.
But well over half a century ago, our Congress, executive branch and courts began to dismantle such "de jure" racism. In the 1954 Brown vs. Board of Education case, for example, the Supreme Court declared: "Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal."
Yet earlier this month, the Nebraska Legislature voted to divide Omaha's public schools into three districts, one each dominated by African-Americans, Hispanics and whites.
That state's only black senator, Ernie Chambers, said that the plan would give minorities control over their own school boards. He noted that there "is no intent to create segregation."
Although this proposal will -- as it should -- almost certainly fall to court challenges, it is not as loony as it initially sounds. Chambers observed that because students attend neighborhood schools and because most neighborhoods are ethnically cohesive, Omaha's schools are already segregated. He thinks that letting each major group control its own educational resources could improve education for minorities.

Legislature Votes For Ten Commandments
OKLAHOMA CITY (April 25, 2006) - Members of the Oklahoma House of Representatives approved legislation today that would give state support to counties that display the Ten Commandments on public property.
Senate Bill 1878, by state Sen. Harry Coates (R-Seminole) and state Rep. Kevin Calvey, would allow the state Attorney General to defend counties from lawsuits challenging public display of the Ten Commandments.
"The Ten Commandments has been one of the most important foundations of civilized law for centuries, but a few zealots want that information suppressed because of religious bigotry," said Calvey, R-Del City. "Senate Bill 1878 simply ensures that fringe groups filing lawsuits aren't allowed to restrict the free speech rights of all Oklahomans."
Provisions of Senate Bill 1878 developed by state Sen. James Williamson, R-Tulsa, would allow county commissioners to approve the display of the Ten Commandments on county property after having been advised by the Office of the District Attorney or the Office of the Attorney General how to do so in a constitutional manner, and would allow the state Attorney General to defend counties from lawsuits challenging such a display.
The legislation also allows money from the state's General Revenue Fund to go to district attorneys to cover the costs of defending legal challenges to displays of the Ten Commandments on public property when the Attorney General declines to provide the legal defense.

Fletcher takes veto pen to $370 million in projects
Partial list of budget cuts FRANKFORT — Gov. Ernie Fletcher will not veto $10 million for a pharmacy school at the University of the Cumberlands, but the said no money will be used on the project until courts determine if it’s constitutional for state dollars to go to the Baptist school.
Fletcher, on statewide television tonight, said, “I believe we need to answer once and for all in Kentucky the legality of funding private faith-based institutions for public purposes.”
The issue of state funding for private, religious schools grew more intense after the school expelled student Jason Johnson because he said on a Web site that he was gay. The Kentucky Fairness Alliance, which promotes gay rights, had urged Fletcher to veto.
“I think (Gov. Fletcher) chose to fund bigotry and discrimination rather than to promote equality throughout Kentucky,” Johnson said.
He said he was upset with Fletcher’s decision, “not only as a taxpayer, as a citizen of Kentucky.”
Although Fletcher said he would not veto the money, the school apparently won’t get it immediately.
“Before any money is released to the institution, I’m asking the courts to determine the constitutionality of such projects,” Fletcher said.
Senate President David Williams, who had placed in the state budget $10 million for the pharmacy school and $1 million for scholarships there, said he did not think Fletcher’s decision was bad. The legislature approved the budget last month.
A Fletcher veto yesterday would have removed the $11 million from the state budget.
Williams, R-Burkesville, noted that Sen. Julian Carroll, D-Frankfort, and the Fairness Alliance were planning to challenge the funding in court.

BIRMINGHAM, AL, United States (UPI) -- The former leader of Aruba`s investigation of the disappearance of Alabamian Natalee Holloway says his son falsely accused a man who was released Monday.
Gerold Dompig said accusations of his son, Michael, against Geoffrey van Cromvoirt, 19, were part of a dispute among acquaintances that escalated out of control.
'He`s a kid; he got confused and frustrated and he said things he shouldn`t have said,' Dompig told the Birmingham (Ala.) News. 'It went too far.'
Dompig said his son -- angered by media accusations -- responded with talk he had heard about van Cromvoirt.
'One started talking about the other and the other talked back and it becomes something worse than a soap (opera),' Dompig said.
Dompig said he apologized to van Cromvoirt`s family and requested reassignment earlier this month since talk about Holloway`s nearly year-old disappearance adversely affected his family.
Holloway`s mother said she believes the three original suspects are at fault in Holloway`s disappearance.

Talla Andreas was behind the lens, filming the early-morning surfing action, when he captured the unusual formation.
“We were sitting at the point at Alex ... we all thought it was a tornado,” he said.
A call to the Bureau of Meteorology, however, confirmed it was actually a water spout, a relatively common sight in Moreton Bay during summer, but less common off the Sunshine Coast in late April.

Tornadoes touch down in central Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — At least two tornadoes moved through Canadian County near El Reno Monday night, causing some damage.
There were no immediate reports of injuries with the twisters, which developed ahead of a strong storm system making its way through the region.
Television footage showed one of the twisters moving over El Reno's municipal airport around 7:30 p.m.
Debris could been seen being lifted and flung about as the tornado moved over hangars at the facility. Footage also showed roof damage to the airport scattered metal. The storms were located near U.S. Highway 81 and Interstate 40 about 40 miles west of Oklahoma City.

RED VALLEY, Ariz. — The last decade hasn't been an easy one for Tommy Nakai and the residents of Red Valley Chapter.
Annual oil spills have led to contamination in the water and the ground and have caused crops to be destroyed, animals to die and family members to suffer with various illnesses associated with the oil spills.
"A lot of my relatives are having health problems," said Nakai. "I think it's from the oil getting into the water, from the particles of the oil floating in the water. I have an aunt that has breast cancer now because every summer the water is contaminated and they get sick.
" The problems with oil spills began more than 10 years ago when Kerr-McGee Oil Industries, Inc., turned over production from the 18 available wells in the area to Mountain States Petroleum Company.
"Before, when Kerr-McGee was in charge, things were fine," said Anna Frasier. "But since Mountain States took over, we've had spills every year and they don't do anything to stop it."
Those spills have worsened as time has gone by and have increased in size as the number of pumps still in use, nine, caused Mountain States to pump saline into the wells no longer in use.
In 2004, the amount of oil that spilled into the water runoff was equal to 25 barrels of oil, with each barrel containing 50 gallons. While in 2003 there was a spill that contaminated the soil for more than 20 farmers from the foot of Lukachukai Mountain down to the Red Valley Chapter area.
But the spills have come within the past weeks as on Thursday, April 14, when a break in a pipe caused 80 barrels worth of oil to mix with the water runoff that runs through 12 farms and doesn't stop in Red Valley Chapter.
"The water that runs down through the spring in the runoff goes through Red Valley, then through Oak Springs and eventually ends up in the San Juan River," said Frasier. "In all there's been 12 head of cattle that have been killed because of this and it has ruined the fields for growing crops."
Problems with Mountain States have moved the Red Valley Chapter to introduce a resolution that will be presented at its May 15 chapter meeting.
Calling for the Navajo Nation and Mountain States Petroleum Company to cancel the oil and gas lease agreements within the Red Valley Chapter boundaries, the chapter is also requesting for Mountain States to clean up the area that has been contaminated by the oil leaks.
"The Red Valley Chapter community requests that the Navajo Nation and their departments and Bureau of Indian Affairs join forces to immediately address the environmental devastation their community members have been exposed to for years and that the efforts to meet the aforementioned goals be a priority by all involved until such time that the issue is resolved," states the resolution.
Members of the Red Valley Chapter did contact members of the Tribal Environmental Protection Agency, but the muddy conditions caused by the oil spills didn't allow the EPA to thoroughly investigate the spills.
"When the spills happened, we called the EPA," said Lori Goodman.
"Getting a response was like pulling teeth and by the time they came out, on Monday, it had seeped into the ground. This isn't the first time this has happened and there are many families that can no longer farm."
Goodman added that the pipes for the oil, which are to be at least four feet under the ground, are exposed and are driven over constantly by passing vehicles.
In addition to demands for cleanup efforts by Mountain States Petroleum, the Red Valley resolution points to the fact that the chapter is authorized and sanctioned by the Navajo Nation to make decisions concerning such drilling choices due to the Local Governance Act.
The proposed resolution also adds that residents are forced to haul water in from different sources due to contaminated water and that the odors from the wells have caused residents to deal with illnesses that have hurt both themselves and their animals.
"Mountain States is ignoring what the people want for almost 10 years now," said Nakai. "We've contacted the EPA, Mountain States and everyone else and it seems like they are just ignoring it and want the problem to go away."
Red Valley Chapter members will discuss the resolution on May 15. Calls to Mountain States Petroleum Company were not returned.

As a matter of fact it will be the perfect place for him when he is indicted for outing a CIA agent along with Cheney and Bush.
The House of Bush has always been a House of Cards and it's collapsing.

The change was seen as part of the White House realignment set up by the change to Josh Bolten as chief of staff. Bolten took over the position last Friday.

I think we need to resolve to keep an open mind. There are undoubtedly issues. There is always 'the carrot and skick'' promise of a lawsuit by the victim. That isn't all of it. This young woman provided a service to a group of young men that were supposed to be above reporach. Obviously they are not. The media blitz was the worst idea the defendants ever had. Trying to corrupt the 'imiage' surrounding the victim and setting up a Pre-Defense by releasing information regarding DNA testing was an attempt to bring pressure on the Prosecutor to drop the case. It was the worst strategy. It further hurt the victim . That strategy was less than humble or forgiving. It served to exacerbate the demand for justice. The Duke Shadow of 'priviledge seems to be a bit weighty on this issue. That shadow will be dealt with, if nothing else comes of this case the void between the community and Duke will be clearer. If the entities can fill that void is yet another issue. The community has to be willing and Duke available for change.

This young woman provided a service to a group of young men that were supposed to be above reporach. Obviously they are not. The media blitz was the worst idea the defendants ever had. Trying to corrupt the 'imiage' surrounding the victim and setting up a Pre-Defense by releasing information regarding DNA testing was an attempt to bring pressure on the Prosecutor to drop the case. It was the worst strategy. It further hurt the victim . That strategy was less than humble or forgiving. It served to exacerbate the demand for justice. The Duke Shadow of 'priviledge seems to be a bit weighty on this issue. That shadow will be dealt with, if nothing else comes of this case the void between the community and Duke will be clearer. If the entities can fill that void is yet another issue. The community has to be willing and Duke available for change.
