After CNN was forced to walk back John King’s reporting that an arrest had been made in connection to the Boston Marathon bombing, Aaron Brown (an anchor at CNN until 2005, including on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001) was sympathetic.

“No one who does this in a breaking news environment has not had this happen. You feel that you’ve let down the organization and the audience. It is a very difficult moment.”

Brown, who is now a professor at Arizona State University, told Salon that his students had asked about the King reporting throughout the day. “I told them it never would have happened this badly on my watch,” he joked, before turning serious. “The role of the anchor is to say: This is true. And these things are very chaotic. [CNN should have indicated] ‘What we can say for sure is that the case moved significantly today.” Brown suggested that King and NBC News’ Pete Williams were using sources from entirely different spheres, with Williams operating with federal sources in Washington, while “my guess is that [King] was getting stuff from local or law enforcement or courthouse people; his sources were state people.”

The former CNN reporter indicated that an issue of reputation and stature helped get King’s reporting on the air. “There is tremendous pressure, even though CNN is inherently conservative in its news judgment,” Brown said. “It was one of the most trusted reporters in the organization and in the news business. Did the executive producer make the call? Absolutely. Was the anchor involved? Probably not.”

“If I’m running a cable news organization,” Brown said, “which I’m surely not and don’t expect to, one of the things I would try to do is be humble in breaking stuff.” He indicated that CNN ought to have run its sources’ claims with a caveat: “Say, ‘This is what we’re getting. If it all bears out, it could be a huge moment.’

“It would be unfair not to recognize that they’re very serious about getting it right,” said Brown. But within CNN, he speculated, there will be attempts by the same reporters who checked their emails on-air today looking for more information to distance themselves from the story. “What direction does shit roll? The direction it rolls now. It’s the reporter’s story and the reporter’s going to be the one who has the  hardest time sleeping tonight.”

The manipulated film segments still show no truth, other than the one we know.

I remember clearly the day the USA was attacked and so many innocent civilians died. The fact Aaron Brown was in strong daylight and then in shadow only proves the sun moves through the sky. It was late evening in September in NY City, the sun was starting to set. The lack of shadow after 14 minutes means nothing.

I remember Tower Seven, because I was message boarding that day and one of the entries I made was about the stability of surrounding towers.

The World Center buildings were gigantic. They had many, many tons of debris that hit the street when they fell. They fell very quickly. There was no other reason for their fall except the planes. When watching the film loop of the buildings it is easy to discern the top parts of the buildings tipped slightly and then their weight caused the pancaking of the floors below. There were no other explosions anywhere. The planes, heavy with fuel, caused the destabilization of the upper structure and when they could not stand erect anymore, the weight of the upper buildings collapsed the rest of the buildings.

When that occurred one of the first things I thought, having some formal background in geology, was the stability of the surrounding buildings and street. There are subways in New York City. It occurred to me the collapse of those buildings would disturb the integrity of the ground below them and the structure within that ground. 

Sure enough, the surrounding buildings were found to be unstable. Not necessarily burned to the ground, but, rattled by the fall of the buildings enough to cause their structure to crack and become unstable. It was years before the surrounding buildings and subway were back in use.

The black rectangle referred to toward the end of the film loop was absent in other scenes of the same segment. It could be the shadow of a street sign or something introduced by the person editing the film. The majority of the film happens as it should.

The 911 Truthers are wrong. The events of September 11, 2001 is correct as history has recorded them. I don't understand why these people seek a different reality, possibly political, but, I believe they are pandered to for profits by the tabloid papers. It is a sad reality to the fact citizens don't believe the reality before them.

Bizarre use of Aaron Brown's image.

In shaking his head "no," he was probably answering someone in his earpiece. That day, there was so much going on it was amazing to realize he could have an intelligent conversation with his audience, yet alone the team putting together information for his audience. The coverage with Aaron Brown and David Bohrman was unbelievable. The nation came "up to speed" and reasonably competent in a short period of time as the tragedies were unfolding.

Iraq. The circumstances within Iraq are not surrounding an Iraqi Army although I am confident Nic Robertson will do an excellent job of contextualizing it's operational status.

The issue is that Iraq is organized differently. It is organized around it's ethnicity and communities of faith. There are local militias that protect these communities. We know for a fact the Iraqis have been very successful locally in providing a functional police force that brandish automatic weapons and bullet proof vests.

The USA is also attempting to make an Iraqi Army that is equivalent to itself. That will never happen as they aren't interested in global domination at this point. They are interested in protecting their interests and that does not mean controlling the borders either. A lot of the Iraq economy outside the oil of Halliburton, is dependant on pilgrimage. That can't exist in a war environment. It is also inappropriate to create an Iraqi military greater in ability than they were before. Their military was vulnerable by greater forces and that was an asset to the region. The USA here and again always expects high moral behavior by another nation. "Putting USA conscience on the soldiers of others." That is wrong. Assuming another nation wants to be 'little America' I doubt it will be one from Islam.

Families participating in a mutual self-help project perform approximately 65 percent of the construction labor on each other's homes under qualified supervision. The savings from the reduction in labor costs allows otherwise ineligible families to own their homes. If families cannot meet their mortgage payments during the construction phase, the funds for these payments can be included in the loan.

Frozen Airman. When Aaron covered this he was concerned there were so many MIA from previous wars outside that of Vietnam.

This program makes very heavy investments in a singular identity. That is a mistake. If this comes back differently you risk being a disinformation source. You lose your credibility. That isn't good business or good journalism policy. Reporting the facts of the discovery and the procedure they follow to derive evidence is fine but to personalize it with expectations to a particular outcome is unethical.

Here we go. All the families involved are showcased. This isn't about the 'airman' so much as a reassurance to the type of memory families carry of their dead military. This is about honoring potential recruits rather than a venture into forensics and it's outcome.

To, the man on the roof at 9-11. Here is a little holiday cheer. My son, Robert. He has a very promising job prospect already waiting for him when he graduates next year. He received the offer today. I was astounded for the success of a man that I have raised and think of as a child. I am very proud of him, Aaron. It's a new start up position with a long standing and stable private and prosperous institution with quite a surprising starting salary. Rob is very charismatic and mature. He is always himself. I never expected him to be a first choice knowing how unpretentious he would be in any interview. I hope all is well with you. I think of you often and miss you terribly. There is no one like you, Aaron. CNN was grossly unjust to us all.

For the longest time I would remind Aaron to pay attention to his sideburns where his temples were gray. It was almost as though the new management encouraged it. I thought it was odd. Unless gray looks good on you, no one wanted to be gray.

It would seem as though I was wrong. Anderson Cooper is a composite. A genetic mutant designed specifically for CNN and it's ambitious undertakings.

On the east coast they want to attact those of us aging and planning on living forever. The folks whom are older are also nestled in around the 'boob tube' about 6 pm in the evening. Tonight Andrew Weil will be on with his holistic approach to aging. I like Andrew Weil. When I think of him I think of Vitamin D. I don't like the new AC360 at 10 pm though.

So, when CNN has disposed of the east coast crowd it dives right into the hopes of capturing South Central LA at 7pm for lots of images of law enforcement tales and inspiration to service through military danger 'down play.'

Aaron wasn't a composite. He wasn't a multi-tasking icon. He was a darn good journalist and down to Earth newsman. His expertise is missed. He is one of a kind and his message mixed with conservative values and liberal venture is a unique view of the world.

I don't believe I will ever find another journalist with quite the 'tilt' on things as Aaron. I don't care what anyone else says. He PRACTICED the profession when he was teamed with David Bohrman with ethical standards and correctness and a delivary no one has yet to match. He's got to come back. The news of the day isn't the same without him.

Brown, whose NewsNight show anchored the station's prime time news slot, has a legion of fans who are none too pleased about Brown's departure. Whoever has to read CNN's hate e-mail is probably working late tonight 'cuz of this.

Brown is leaving the network and will be taking some "well-deserved time off with his family," CNN president Jon Klein said in a press release. Brown has not officially accepted a new gig yet.

In a separate AP interview, Brown said that he might be interested in returning to the anchor desk at another network some day, but that he was in no hurry and was enjoying his time off. He is being paid for his estimated $1.5-million-plus contract, which runs until July 2007.

A: Aaron Brown, who had been hosting CNN’s “NewsNight,” has been replaced with Anderson Cooper and the show has been renamed to “Anderson Cooper 360.” Cooper’s old 7 p.m. time slot was filled by the three-hour “Situation Room” anchored by Wolf Blitzer. An ABC report on the switch quoted CNN’s U.S. president, Jon Klein, as saying the replacement was done “to build CNN’s schedule around what he considers its hottest personality, Cooper, and hottest new show, ‘The Situation Room.’ ” Cooper had been gathering notoriety through his reports on recent disasters. beginning with the Asian tsunami and most recently Hurricane Katrina.

Brown came to CNN from ABC in 2001 and was immediately put into a major role after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Q: I would like to know if anyone knows where you can get Sen-Sen. It was used as a breath freshener in chip form and placed under the tongue.

I want to congratulate you on your recent editorial that brought attention to the untimely replacement of Aaron Brown on CNN.

Mr. Brown was a great anchorman and engaged the people in his audience and made them feel that he was talking directly to each person.

His manner was such that he not only enjoyed his time on the air, but his performance revealed his love and wit and as your comment noted, with respect and a true acknowledgement of the facts.

I thought of him as a friend who came each night to tell us what was going on in the world and did it in a fashion that captured and held the audience. I hope that he will soon be back on the air, because I miss him very much.

CNN is the loser, and so are his viewers, but I appreciate the fact that your newspaper made note of his departure.

Brown's exit just sign of the times

After he was hired by CNN in 2001, anchorman Aaron Brown was widely viewed as the man likely to become the primary face of the network.
But it seems that Brown's face isn't young enough or fashionable enough for CNN's latest president, Jonathan Klein.

Brown, 56, has been booted from the network and replaced by 38-year-old Anderson Cooper, a handsome correspondent and anchor believed more suited to much-coveted younger viewers.
Brown was never much of a looker, but he was known in television news as a thorough reporter and a solid writer, and his coverage of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks shortly after his arrival at CNN was a calming presence for the nation.

Ironically, Cooper, Brown's replacement at CNN, also rose to prominence through his performance in a national disaster. Cooper's hand-wringing monologues from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina drew large numbers of viewers, though it's unclear how many of those viewers tuned in to mock rather than admire Cooper's histrionic reportage. Anderson's all-about-me approach to his stories has made him an object of parody on NBC's "Saturday Night Live," a development that Klein, oddly enough, has noted with approval.

Klein told The New York Times that spoofs of Cooper on "Saturday Night Live" were clear evidence that people were becoming more aware of Cooper. It apparently doesn't matter to Klein whether Cooper is respected, just so long as he's watched. Mark this down as just another blurring of the line between TV news and entertainment.

Klein said Cooper stood out for his "passion and enthusiasm" while covering Katrina, and while this will sound good to many, it makes us nostalgic for the days when reporters were lauded for restraining their emotion while covering a story, rather than flaunting it.

Cooper's running theater of psychological angst seems to resonate with a lot of younger viewers, many of whom have embraced reality shows, Internet blogs and anything else that frames the world as an eternal exercise in personal testimonial.

That trendy sensibility was a decided contrast with Brown, whose no-nonsense, Joe Friday delivery of the news acknowledged facts, not fatuous grandstanding, as the currency of his craft.
Indeed, the chief appeal of Brown's 9 p.m. "Newsnight" program was its lack of pretension. Brown served up the day's headlines, offered thoughtful, politely respectful interviews with newsmakers, and concluded each evening's show with a sneak peak at the next morning's front pages that had been faxed from newspapers across the country. Brown was always careful to compliment his reporters in the field, wisely recognizing journalism as a collaborative enterprise rather than a venue for individual celebrity.

Brown's self-effacing persona staked a departure from the growing ego parade of cable news, so maybe it was inevitable that he should find himself in the bull's-eye of the network honchos.
The writing was on the wall a few weeks ago, when CNN executives added Cooper to "Newsnight" as Brown's co-anchor, then started jazzing up the show with loud lead-ins and over-the-top graphics. Brown was forced to move from behind his desk and deliver the news while awkwardly standing in front of the set --presumably because some focus group full of twentysomethings declared that sitting was too sedentary for these hip, frenetic times.
The changes seemed a humiliating turn for Brown -- one was reminded of a father forced to dance to his son's bad music -- so perhaps it's for the best that Brown and CNN have parted company. Maybe Brown's intelligent approach can find a home in a less ratings-hungry environment; public television comes to mind.

"We cannot thank Aaron enough," Klein said in giving Brown the ax. If this is gratitude, then Brown is better off without CNN, though CNN isn't better off without him.

Return of Ratings with the return of Katrina Victims? Doesn't seem to equate no matter the focus.

The surge of a Category 5 storm could put New Orleans under 18 ft. of water.

They don't bury the dead in New Orleans. The highest point in the city is only 6 ft. above sea level, which makes for watery graves. Fearful that rotting corpses caused epidemics, the city limited ground burials in 1830. Mausoleums built on soggy cemetery grounds became the final resting place for generations. Beyond providing a macabre tourist attraction, these "cities of the dead" serve as a reminder of the Big Easy's vulnerability to flooding. The reason water rushes into graves is because New Orleans sits atop a delta made of unconsolidated material that has washed down the Mississippi River.
Think of the city as a chin jutting out, waiting for a one-two punch from Mother Nature. The first blow comes from the sky. Hurricanes plying the Gulf of Mexico push massive domes of water (storm surges) ahead of their swirling winds. After the surges hit, the second blow strikes from below. The same swampy delta ground that necessitates above-ground burials leaves water from the storm surge with no place to go but up.
The fact that New Orleans has not already sunk is a matter of luck. If slightly different paths had been followed by Hurricanes Camille, which struck in August 1969, Andrew in August 1992 or George in September 1998, today we might need scuba gear to tour the French Quarter.
"In New Orleans, you never get above sea level, so you're always going to be isolated during a strong hurricane," says Kay Wilkins of the southeast Louisiana chapter of the American Red Cross.

An oil rig tore free of its moorings as Hurricane Katrina lashed the Alabama coast, before surging downriver and smashing into a suspension bridge, witnesses said.
The platform broke free from the Bender shipbuilding and repair yard in Mobile during the morning as the then category four hurricane walloped the southern US coast.

The bloodshed occurred as the trial of ousted leader Saddam Hussein for alleged crimes against humanity resumed Monday in a heavily guarded Baghdad courtroom. The trial was adjourned until Dec. 5 to allow time to find replacements for two defense lawyers who were slain and another who fled the country after he was wounded.

Death raises Sudan oil tensions

The untimely death of the South Sudanese leader John Garang in a helicopter crash has re-ignited competition between oil companies.

Many are keen to develop Africa's most promising untapped reserves.

Garang had ties with a small British company, White Nile, which claims exploration rights to an area which may have up to a billion barrels of crude.

There's speculation his death will strengthen French oil company, Total, which also claims rights over the area.

Competing claims

White Nile's shares fell 12% on Monday following news of Garang's death, even though the company denied operations would be affected.

It is easy to see why investors were nervous. Garang played an important role in a deal that gives White Nile a 60% stake in developing the Block Ba oil concession, a region thought to contain $200bn worth of untapped oil at current prices.

White Nile has only been in business two years. It was founded by a former star of the England cricket team, Phil Edmonds, who developed a strong working relationship with the ex-rebel leader of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement.

White Nile has certainly been popular with British investors - its shares rose more than tenfold in their first month's trading on London's Alternative Investment Market.
The company says Garang's death won't affect its exploration concession as the deal it signed is backed by other high-ranking figures in southern Sudan's semi-autonomous government.
Political dimension

Meanwhile, the French oil giant Total claims to have rights over the same area under a 1980 agreement it signed with the other side in the civil war - the national Sudanese government.
If nothing else, the dispute shows how oil and factional politics have got muddled up in one of Africa's most devastated but potentially wealthy regions.

The peace deal signed in January to end the 21-year-old civil war between north and south has unleashed a new form of conflict.

Chinese firms are now among the main players in a corporate battle over rights to Sudan's oil and mineral riches.

The governor is being cited as the person whom is misinformed. Bush stated New Orleans would be restored. The Ninth Ward is full of dead bodies not found yet. The CORRECT word to describe the 'fighters' in Iraq is the word THEY choose to be called. They choose to be called opposition fighters. They have always stated that was their identity. Given that identity it adds a great deal of legitimacy. At one point the Sadr militia and the Kurds militia were considered insurgency rather than opposition forces. Today they are respected by their regional populous as well as seen as the Iraq government as citizens interested in the security of their religious flocks. The Iraqi government is asking the militias to become a part of the National Force. Perhaps that will happen but one thing is very clear, the USA military has not brought dignity to our forces and for that reason 80% of the people of Iraq want us to leave.

"Scientific evidence suggests there is a link between global warming and the power—not frequency—of hurricanes," said Dr. Brenda Ekwurzel, a climate scientist at the Union of Concerned Scientists.
Late last week, hurricane Katrina left Florida as a Category 1 hurricane. In the course of a few days, Katrina transformed herself from a mild tropical storm into a dangerous Category 5 hurricane as she spun through the warm waters of the Gulf. While it is difficult to blame any one weather event—be it a hurricane or a heat wave or a blizzard—on global warming, recent peer-reviewed research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology shows that a combined measure of both the duration and intensity of hurricanes has doubled over the last 30 years. This trend corresponds to increases in average ocean surface temperatures over the same period. Most of the strongest hurricanes on record have occurred during the past 10 years, when ocean surface temperatures reached record levels.
"Computer predictions warned citizens in Louisiana and Mississippi of Katrina's force," said Dr. Ekwurzel. "This saved thousands of lives for those who were able to evacuate. Recent scientific developments also tell us that hurricanes will only get more powerful with warmer oceans caused by global warming."
Climate scientists around the world are certain that rising ocean temperatures are a result of global warming. Burning fossil fuels in cars and power plants releases carbon dioxide that blankets the Earth and traps heat. Oceans cover the majority of the Earth's surface, and they absorb most of this excess heat. Temperatures have already risen dramatically in recent decades, and because global warming pollution can stay in the atmosphere for a hundred or more years, temperatures will continue to increase.
"For economic and environmental reasons, and above all to save human lives, President Bush and other elected officials must take action to reduce heat-trapping emissions," said Dr. Ekwurzel.

It doesn't matter how much money the Congress/Senate approves there is no movement of the bureaucracy. The governor is not the issue, Anderson. FEMA has not done anything regarding the assistance to the resolution to this problem.

Difficultly Identifying Katrina's Dead

The other 140, however, are so severely decomposed it will take DNA testing to determine their identity. Like much of everything else at the morgue, however, getting DNA testing set up has been slow and frustrating.
Initially, the Louisiana State Police lab was going to handle DNA tests, but FEMA twice refused funding because of bureaucratic rules that limit how much and who the agency can pay. FEMA and Cataldie hope they've solved the issue by having the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services handle the testing, though it hasn't started.
"DNA is our weapon of last resort," Cataldie said. "And I'm at that point."
DNA tests also could help determine how many victims are lost forever — those washed into the Gulf of Mexico or buried in the marshes or under debris.

You are right, training a military to MATCH the USA in an Islamic is lengthy. It is also "W"rong. Can you imagine an Islamic military force to MATCH that of the USA. COOPER: Welcome back. We've talked a lot about Scientology and the battled Tom Cruise and the church is waging on psychiatric drugs. Last night Cruise told Barbara Walters he doesn't regret anything he said this past year, and claims since speaking out nearly half a million children have come off depressants. Clearly, the church doesn't shy away from the subject. There is another topic the Scientologists are a bit touchy on, it involves a vault in the desert of New Mexico and some mysterious land markings nearby, markings that can only be seen from the sky. Scientologists say there is nothing strange about what's out there, but not everyone is convinced. Richard Leiby is a "Washington Post" writer, he's written about those odd sightings and I spoke with him earlier.

COOPER: So, Richard, what do you know about this facility, this bunker, and these sort of crop circle-like markings?
RICHARD LEIBY, WRITER, "THE WASHINGTON POST": This is one of what I think has been reported to be three bunkers that the Church of Scientology uses to preserve against any catastrophe, nuclear war, whatever might happen, earthquakes, to preserve the sacred writings of L. Ron Hubbard.
COOPER: And then the markings outside, the crop circle-like things? What are those? What is the purpose of that?
LEIBY: That is a logo of the Church of Spiritual Technology, Inc. That corporation was created by the Church of Scientology, specifically for the preservation of Hubbard's materials.
COOPER: You mean for -- if you believe that people who follow this or are in certain parts of the organization, if they come back -- what, thousands of years from now, they'll be able to see this from space? Is that --?
LEIBY: Yes, well, the church believes in reincarnation and loyal officers of the church, loyalists known as the See Organization, sign a billion-year contract.
COOPER: And I guess, there is nothing unusual about a religious group wanting to protect the writings of the people who founded it, I suppose. What's raising the eyebrows of the people in the area?
LEIBY: This was first reported by a TV station in Albuquerque, New Mexico, which wanted to write about the vault. For the first time you could see these markings and you could see them from a high altitude. And why --
COOPER: I understand this local TV station -- according to the TV station, on their web site, they have said that the Scientologists tried to get them to stop going forward with this report by offering them a tour.
LEIBY: Offered them a tour and also they reported that the Scientologists worked very hard to stop the story from being aired.

COOPER: Well, here to give us more insight into the vault and these markings, is former Scientologist Michael Pattinson. He says he's filed two lawsuits against the church, both were unsuccessful. He joins me now from Los Angeles. Michael, thanks for being with us. What are those markings in the ground?
MICHAEL PATTINSON, FORMER SCIENTOLOGIST: Those markings on the ground are, as Richard Leiby said, they are the logo of the Church of Spiritual Technology.
COOPER: What is the Church of Spiritual Technology?
PATTINSON: It's basically the pinnacle of Scientology. It's the head organization from which all the rest flows, if you like. It's the holder of the copyrights and the technical works of L. Ron Hubbard. And it goes under the name of L. Ron Hubbard Library, as I understand it.
COOPER: It looks like it's two circles, basically, with sort of two diamond shaped objects in the center of them. What is that? Do you know what that means?
PATTINSON: No, I haven't had an explanation of that. I just know that it was a registered trademark.
COOPER: A logo.
PATTINSON: Registered in 1985 for SCT and it is a rather mysterious sign, it is like a crop circle with no crops.
COOPER: And it's only visible from the sky. Why would that be?
Pattinson: Uh, well, you know they say that reality is sometimes stranger than fiction, Anderson and this maybe one of the cases where that is so. As you know, L. Ron Hubbard was basically a science fiction writer. And this seems to be along that same kind of thread, that kind of -- like of thinking if you like. It's designed to protect his technology in a vault and that's a marking, which shows the location of that vault from space.
COOPER: So, there is a vault nearby, I guess, in a bunker sort of built underground or into the side of a mountain. What's inside the vault?
PATTINSON: Inside the vault are many containers, very high-tech containers, full of L. Ron Hubbard's technology, his writings, which are put onto titanium plates and etched into the titanium plates. I actually held one of these myself, so I know what I'm talking about.
COOPER: So, actually, it's like a metal tablet with writings etched in it?
PATTINSON: That's correct. Yes. That's correct.
Cooper: And that so that it -- what? -- that it can withstand the test of time?
PATTINSON: Yes, it is designed to withstand the test of time for maybe thousands of years. It's on a rather extreme knowledge basis, if you like; where the belief is that if Scientology fails to eradicate completely psychiatry and psychology, then this civilization will perish. And then they can come back. They're motto is, "We come back." And they can find Hubbard's writings again and take up Scientology again and start a new civilization. I mean, this is really what is believed.
COOPER: And who has access to this kind of underground archive? Is it only sort of top-level members?
PATTINSON: Oh, very much so. It's been very hush-hush. We knew, of course, about the donation program to finance this, very much. But we didn't know the specifics. I believe there may be even five locations for these vaults. Not just three, but we'll have to look into that.
COOPER: Michael Pattinson, it is good to talk to you. Thanks, Michael.
PATTINSON: Thank you very much.
COOPER: We should mention that we contacted the Church of Scientology about the vault. They didn't return our calls. They have in the past referred to Michael Pattinson as a disgruntled former member who couldn't live up to their high ethical standards.
I don't know why you are so doggedly in pursuit of Tom Cruise, because that is what this is all about, unless the fact he has a real career might be a sore spot with you. Jealousy, perhaps.
I don't want to get into theologies, human rights and high handed rantings about one religion be more correct than another, but, if you ever frequented a synagogue you would not find images of human beings staring back at you as icons of worship. There are religious symbols but not narcisstic symbols of humans risen to the level of gods as saints or angels. Those statues even if they appear to be weeping tears of blood, to me, are meaningless. As a matter of fact a statue weeping what appears to be blood cannot possibly be something of god so much as the devil. And to be honest I have never heard in any religious ceremony of Jewish faith even the mention of a devil or any picture to know what one would look like. I don't believe in the devil as he is a former angel cast out of heaven. See, to me that is a sacrilege in that it is breaking the second commandment. If I may? This is a convenient reference.

This prohibits belief in or worship of any additional deities, gods, spirits or incarnations. To deny the uniqueness of God, is to deny all that is written in the Torah. (2)It is also a prohibition against making or possessing objects that one or other may bow down to or serve such as crucifixes, and any forms of paintings or artistic representations of God. (3)One must not bow down to or serve any being or object but God. (4)One is prohibited from making sculpture of human beings even for the fine arts.

To me being a Jew is about life and it's celebration and not manifestations of evil over good so much as clear, honest, hard working life full of family, friends and endless joy. The religious symbols that surround me are of ceremony and love of a faith such as the Star of David, a menorah, a yarmulke, a prayer book and an alphabet with no direct letter for vowels. It is a faith of joy, worldliness and abiding community.
The emblems on some real estate in New Mexico have the same effect on me. They are symbols of 'mysticism' that represent something to someone regarding their spirituality. I think it is fine. The scientologists could have done far, far worse than L. Ron Hubbard.
You, CNN and AC360 seem to forget there was a time when Jesus of Nazareth was charged with blasphemy as well. So, who are you to say what is of the spritual realm and what isn't. I don't have that authority and nor would I care to have it. If people find solice, joy and a good life in Scientology then I wish them well and would never seek to ridicule them. It is hate of their spirituality they don't need and victimization in this case of a man expecting a baby with a woman he loves. I find it deplorable.
As an American I am happy for any parents that have found a way of raising their children without drugs. My youngest son needed medication for Undifferentiated ADD when he attended the public school. He never needed it when he was homeschooled and he learned quite well but he was over stimulated in a classroom setting and needed help with concentration. My son's deficits are somewhat profound but not so much so that he has not been able to find a way of operating in this world. He is autonomous in the ability to make a living and currently has a girlfriend he respects and respects him. I am happy for him. As soon as he left high school he stopped taking medication and consequently didn't do well in college. It was his choice and even today he refuses to take stimulants to help him cope with life. He wants to take on life straight on and he is wonderful. I don't know what his capacity in life will be but when he failed in college I was concerned he would be a dependant forever. He has proven me wrong. I have no worries about his future without his medication. He has devoted friends and is liked in his business dealings. He is honest to a fault and would never dream of criticizing another human being for their faith. I admire my son. I strive to be as pure of life's dealings as he is taking disappointments in stride and rising to it's challenges. I learn from him. He is my teacher. I was his protector. Protecting him has resulted in a wonderful man whom people love, like and turn to. What more can I ask for? Heck, in time, and not much time at all he'll probably be a millionaire. He has a lot of ambition.
So, when this type of issue presents itself I will not tolerate it. It might seem 'silly' to others but it is a non-issue to me and always will be. I wish those at CNN well and hope that the programming of AC360 takes on a tone that attracts viewers rather than repels them.
Currently, you are all bigots that track with a long history documented here.. And I'll tell you something, Iam curious how shopping malls can have ultrasound pictures for framing and Cruise can't have one in his home. Hm? I am sure he and his spouse don't seek to operate it without proper instructions and parameters. I find it amusing they are so attached to their child they can't wait to see it.
